B16 Timing Belt too loose NEED HELP!
I replaced the timing belt and water pump. I put the timing belt backon tightened it up and it seem'd good. However after starting the car we heard a weird noise pulled the belt off and it was loose. I checked the time and it was all inline At TDC. I tried retightening it but to no avail. The weird part now when I turn the crank the belt gets loose at the top between the cam gears I turn it three teeth and it gets tight again. I don't know what's going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

ok if your turning the engine over and checking for tightness are you turning the engine over clockwise or counter clockwise? never try to adjust your timing marks or re tension the belt while turning the engine clockwise, always rotate the engine in it's direction of rotation while running and for a b16, it's counter clockwise
ive noticed mine do that to where they seem to get tight and loose as they rotate, also it shouldnt be super theres a certain deflection thats acceptable but ya if its makin noise must be somthin wrong, check the tensioner is cliped on the right stuff and make sure to tension it before tightening it
Also check to make sure the tensioner spring didn't fall off in the process, and make sure you got the right tooth water pump. If it's a 19 tooth, you got a LS pump...b16 should be either 21 or 22 teeth.
How many teeth are on your water pump, the B18A/B has 3 less and would make your belt loose. Plus it bolts right onto your B16....
DOHC VTEC - 22
DOHC - 19
It's been about 1 year since I've done a B-series water pump, but I'm pretty sure that is the correct tooth count.
