B-series tranny question

well yesterday i took the hatch out to look at some apartments... got about three blocks, when i shifted into second and let my clutch go i lost every single gear

when i push the clutch in i hear kind of a scrapeing/light grinding sound and it continues for about 30 seconds after releaseing it as well.. if i put it in gear and rev it the sound will get slightly louder and you can tell something is rubbing and corresponds with the engine rpms

im thinking throw out bearing because the last week or so every now and then i'd have trouble shifting into gears for about a minute of frantic clutch stomping because i was in traffic and i heard the classic T/O bearing scrape when i had the clutch pushed in at a stop

i have a guy comeing to get it tomorrow and take a look but just want opinions... what do you guys think? and what would you think would be a fair price to charge to replace it for a shop?

i am going through similar troubles now. so far its only the release bearing spring that broke. once i get it back together i'll know if there is more damage.

oh, you dont want a shop to do this. you gotta pull the engine and trans. big $$$$

you can do it w/ basic hand tools and an engine hoist (i rented the hoist for $20/day) took me 3 hours to get everything out and apart. i dont know you level of expertise but its only nuts and bolts, neanderthal type ----, not difficult

3 Attachment(s)
yes grasshopper.

88-91 diff pins are NOT harden and the pinion gears wear thru the shaft. One wheel peels = certain death.

Select a gear, let the clutch out. Speedo moves, rattling noise, but no movement.

Only two things can cause that, exploded diff or spit out a axle.

92+ pin (except on rare 95 tranny)

Attachment 28904

88-91 pin that wore thru and snapped off

Attachment 28905

the damage

Attachment 28906
