Well, I swapped in a new rocker assembly tonight in the A6/Z6. I swapped basically everything between the "head" and the valve cover. Car started up and ran fine. I still haven't wired up the Vtec solenoid. Idle was fine, AFR was ok (in a safe range) slightly lean (15.0) on idle, slightly rich (12.5-13.9) every where else.. We drove to taco bell (1/2 mile) and shut the car off, ate, came back out, car started and ran fine. After driving for about 2 miles, she pushed in the clutch to downshift and the RPMs went to about 2000 and started increasing, so we pulled into a parking lot and killed the car. We tried to re-start the car and it would immediatly jump up to 2000-2500 then decrease down to dead. Tried this 3 times and the same thing happened every time. The throttle cable isn't stuck, there is no vac. leak. The CEL was on, but the ECU (PM6) wasn't giving us a code. I reset the ECU and the code went away and the car started up fine. On the drive home the car drove relatively fine but any time she would push in the clutch on decel or at a stop the idle would jump up to 1200-1500, but the CEL didn't come back.

bad ground... fucked up coil? Got a buddy with an extra distributor?

 

Well, yesterday i let the car run and idle for about an hour and it ran fine, after that I revved the **** out of it and it still ran fine, so we'll see what happens today. I'm hoping it is a one time freak thing.
