Wiring 230V CE Mig - laundry room dryer plug.... its all I got! Need Help
 

I just picked up a Chicago Electric Dual Mig 151

Got it dirt cheap, couldnt pass it up and its a step up from flux cored for basically nothing. Only problem is I dont have a 220V plug in this house other than my dryer plug. The welder came wit 3 open wires so Im assuming I have to buy and wire my own plug. My dryer has a plug where the left and right prong are vertical, the top prong is an upsidedown L, and the bottom prong is a circle

I need some help on where and if its possible to wire this up to run in there for now as a temp setup. Never done this before

So will this even work heres a link for the auction with the specs

if it was 220v just get the right plug, and cap off the white wire.. that is, it seems to be that your dryer is 4 wire and your welder is 3 wire.. the extra wire is the neutral (white) so cap it off and shove it in the back of the box...

What colors are the wires coming from the welder? How thick are they? Fat toothpick sized or closer to a pencil sized? Half a penicl? Got any pics? From the specs you listed, it doesn't need a 220v feed. If that's the case, cut a 3 pronged cord off something you don't use or care for and wire it up and plug it in.

Aparently the listing is wrong. I knew it was 220, didnt read the specs. Its definetely 220 as my buddy has the same one

The wires are about 1/2 pencil thick, maybe a bit thicker.

In the auction the listing even says powerred on and tested, obviously it wasnt if there is no plug haha

But its 220V for sure

I just need to know what type of ---- I need to buy (aparently a dryer plug that will fit right?) and if it can weld with gas on the breaker that my dryer is connected to or if itll just keep tripping?

Go to the hardware store or Home Depot and buy a 4 wire dryer cord.

Ok so I'll simply buy the same plug that my dryer uses. Thats simple enough. Best place for that purchase?

Will my dryer breaker be able to handle a freakin welder?

And yeah the posted stats are wrong, its definetely 230V

i have it set up the same way. idk if anyone said but there is one that wire that you dont use coming to the welder. i got my at the home depot for like 15-20bux i think. if you really need me to i can take the electric tape off and take a pic of it.

ive got the same welder on a 30amp circuit, using a 30amp 110v sized horizontal plug. works prefectly fine :)

on a side note, pick up 10-15ft of 12/3 multi strand and throw an extension cord on that ----
