Re: windows XP guru's Chime in
the recovery console works 85% of the time and if it doesnt put the hd in another computer and use as a slave and copy what you want to save over then reinstall windows on it then copy files back to the computer and your set. you deff. need a windows xp cd though well both cd's and a xp key if you reinstall.

Re: windows XP guru's Chime in
I prefer swapping the drive into another PC, but the recovery console works as well. To each his own. I just find it a lot quicker to use the GUI then to type all the commands with the recovery console.
If you have not already wiped and reinstalled, DON'T. It's totally unnecessary. Just restoring the registry from the backup will put the machine back to it's original state. There is no need to run a recovery install, or reinstall in any way shape or form. This is a 5 minute fix with no data or program loss. You don't need an XP CD to fix this if you have another computer you can put the hard drive into. |
Re: windows XP guru's Chime in
md tmp
copy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\software c:\windows\tmp\software.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\sam c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\security c:\windows\tmp\security.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\default c:\windows\tmp\default.bak delete c:\windows\system32\config\system delete c:\windows\system32\config\software delete c:\windows\system32\config\sam delete c:\windows\system32\config\security delete c:\windows\system32\config\default copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config\system copy c:\windows\repair\software c:\windows\system32\config\software copy c:\windows\repair\sam c:\windows\system32\config\sam copy c:\windows\repair\security c:\windows\system32\config\security copy c:\windows\repair\default c:\windows\system32\config\default Copy / Paste that in notepad. Save. Rename .txt to .bat. Put that in your root drive directory and, or a backup drive. If it happens, load the recovery console and run the batch file. For anyone still using XP, quit installing windows xp pro torrents like a goober and install TinyXP. If you're a newbie take the red pill and install with option 1. If you know what you're doing strip the god damned son of a bitch bare. |

On another note, if this was my desktop, i would of pulled the HD and use it for a slave but this is my cheap e bay 250 laptop...... |

Re: windows XP guru's Chime in
What error did you receive when typing the commands into the recovery console?
As for it being a laptop drive, that's why an adapter is so nice to have. |
