Why mustangs?

I always here about Mustangs being really fast for cheap. (especially 5.0's) But I have a question.
I know that they start out pretty quick.

but why is a mustang easy to modify? Do bolt on's give you much more gains than with our 4cyl?
I would think that to get big power gains they would have to go forced induction like we do but mabye i'm wrong.

I'm just curious as to how a v8 driver goes about making his car fast. Not that I want to buy a domestic.

I think the fact that they have 4 more cylinders than we do might have something to do with it. ;)

Re:Why mustangs?

hmmm, 4 more cylinders does obviously have some impact but imagine if honda decided to make the crx with the H22 motor and RWD... That would be a 13 second car from the factory with only 4 cylinders and NA... and the 5.0 is over twice the size of that motor...

Re:Why mustangs?

one other reason is that theres so much aftermarket support for them...

Re:Why mustangs?

they way i figure it, a mustang running 13's is like a civic runnin a 15. when people have a fast civic, something in the 12's, say... a comaprable mustang should be in like the 11's. I give props to honda people more, cuz we take our motors that are half the size, and give a beating to mustangs. People who drive mustangs, for the most part, are cocky punks that think cuz there exhaust growls, then its fast. thats why i think people like us are better...

and to be honest, i dont know what relevance this has to your question. lol :-X

actually stock 5.0 mustangs are slow as ----.....they suck. my friend justin had a 90 5.0 stang and it was terrible. he has a 94 camaro z28 now and its 2wice as fast. my crx with a 50 shot on a stock a6 motor beat that mustang

Re:Why mustangs?

The best of the best mustangs are the 93' cobras, and they ran 14.5.... The new cobra is the exspetion.

Mustangs gain a lot from mods and they is a very large "following", just like SOHC honda guys they can fix/replace parts by asking almost any friend for spare parts and pretty much trade favors..

I had a Non-A/C 89 LX hatchback. It had headers, H-pipe, mufflers, air filter, BFG Drag radials, cobra clutch, weld racing rims, and a lot of misc. weight reduction. I beat my brother by about a car in the 1/4 but at around 125mph he would fly by me. He had/has a 95' Z-28, at the time it just had a air filter and flashed ECU. Now he has headers, DRs, stall convertor, and special clutchs in the tranny and runs nothing but 13.4@99/100mph all day, no more, no less, every run is 13.4, and BTW it has 105K miles on it !!

V8s are a lot less effecant. We get about 1/2 the hp they do, but we only use about 1/4 the motor.

If a 5.0 stang made the same power per liter as a B16A2, it would make 500hp stock !!! Hehehe.. A 5.7L camaro would make 570hp stock !!! and a viper would make 800hp stock !!! Don't get me started on a turbo B16 vs V8s !!

Mustangs have all the right stuff to go fast. Light chasis, RWD, and all the after market support in the world, not to meantion you can buy a 4 banger if your going to build a race car from nothing ( like build the engine, tranny ( you'll need a good one, the stock 5.0 trannies stock balls ), and a disk brake rear end ).

The SVO mustang is pretty sweet, 4cyl., RWD, 2.3L, and best of all TURBO. They were faster than the 5.0 the last year they were built (1986).

dont listen to anyone besides me here.

this is why.

the 5.0 motor is choked to death. just like almsot all v8 motors, with the exceptions being the ls1/ls6 motors.

the 5.0 is so choked up with the stock intake manifold, stock exhaust manifolds, and stock exhaust, that just replacing the manifolds with headers and exhaust with diff mufflers results in a big gain.

take an old 350 2 bbl carb'd engine. put a 4 bbl intake manifold and a 4 bbl carb and they wake right up.

these 4cyl engines are not restricted from the factory. bcause they need everything they can get, and they're using everything they have to make as much hp and tq as they can. that is why they have a high hp/l ratio. most of the american made v8s dont need a high hp/l ratio. the people who buy these cars want easy cruising torque which a v8 gives yah, but they dont nessecaryly need the high revving horsepower that a v8 COULD give.

that my friends in the bottom line

NOT, the v8s you speak of are made to create torque not to rev high and make horsepower. please try again
