VVT-I (from corolla/camry and such) adjust cam timing/over lap contiuosly on intake side only which is kinda same as I-VTEC come with base RSX/element/oddosey and such.

dual VVT-I (recent toyota v6)continously adjust both exhaust and intake cam timing/ overlap

vtec (early sohc vtec/ v6 vtec)only adjust intake cam lift and duration at one point

dohc vtec (B series vtec/ F20c / nsx) adjust both exhuats and intake cam timing at one point.

vtec-e from early accords only adjust the opening of one valve in each cylinder at one point.

VVTL-I (celica gts) is pretty much the same as I-VTEC from RSX-S/ TSX, contiously control cam timing/overlap and increase lift at one point.

IMO I-vtec > vvtL-I > dual vvt-I > vvt-i > dohc vtec > vtec> vtec-e :S

My mom's GS300 pulls nice in the high RPM's, but still has some giddy up in the bottom. Good exhaust note too. I think it's got the 2JZ-GE.

IMO nothing beats the VTEC cross over of a B series with an open header or an exhaust like I have.

Re: VTEC vs VVTL-i

turns out i have vvt-i

i got this off of scionlife.com it's about the '07 tc:

- VVT-I works by automatically adjusting the intake valve timing at different load and temperature conditions, as well as RPM ranges. This is to ensure the motor makes maximum power in any conditions. It provides a wider torque curve and improves throttle response
