Gotcha. Is the software free/readily available? What kind of life do these receivers have? I remember back in the day with black boxes you'd buy one and then sometimes they'd last a long time and sometimes the cable would block the signal and you just spent $300 on a paper weight.

The actual receiver should last years and years. The codes can be updated, so every now and then you might have some downtime, but my friend says it's rarely for longer than a few hours.
