Some places, like Sears, have a track record for handing out their inhouse credit cards to "shady" people with little, no, or slightly blemished credit. Makes it easy to build up a credit rating.

You can go to your bank, lay down a couple hundred dollars for a secured line of credit... means you've already paid for it, really. If you pay what you charge down faithfully (although the money is technically still yours) you eventually have the bank up your limit above the security deposit.

Lastly, if you have a big enough downpayment, you can get financing for all sorts of wierd ---- from cars to houses. The bank's logic is that either you pay the small amount of $ owed off, or they foreclose/repo, keep your deposit, and sell your property to break even or even to profit.

FYI, it is good to keep a continuous debt on the credit card, and make regular payments for a minimum of six months to establish basic low-end good credit. Don't go out and apply for 1001 credit cards, either, as too many inquiries looks bad on your credit as well.

Just go to some retail store and get one of their cards. I got a Kays Jewelry card which I bough about 3 years of Christmas, birthdays, and my watch on. Start somewhere like that to build some credit.

True on the sears ----, the poorest of poorest ------s rolled up and didnt have cash/job/or a means of payment and they still ended up getting something like 300 limit in 5 minutes.

www.providian.com or www.householdbank.com will give just about anybody a credit card, but be prepared to pay an annual fee and a high interest rate. No way around it really unless you get your name added to your parents card, but that doesn't help your credit. Get your own card, avoid the high interest rate by paying in full each month and in a year cancel that card so you don't have to pay the annual fee and apply for a better card with no annual fee. I could go on and on about credit and what you should or should not do, but I have to go to work

i have a student visa with wellsfargo and 2 other credit cards. nothing with high limits. which is good because id rack that bitch up in no time. and like JD said its good to keep a balance because it shows that you can pay ---- on a timely manner rather than paying it all at once. but to be honest with you, if i could go back i wouldnt get any damn credit cards. :l
