Trance's Homemadepaintjob

14 Attachment(s)
Aaaah, home sweet homemadeturbo ;) I think ever since I've been an HMT member my car's been in primer... Thats been quite a while! Well, I got tired of it and really wanted to bring some color to it and decided to do a backyard paintjob and take a few progress pictures along the way. But, I didn't want to go with the factory color again. Hope you guy's enjoy, and if any NE crew HMT people see me around feel free to try and catch up or say hello, haha.

Most of you remember my car like this, the imfamous Primer DC:

A complete color change required me to do all the door jambs, insides of the doors, trunk and even the engine bay.

I got a little 2 tone madness going on. Everything here was done by eye, no tape measure for me :oh

Next came my base color for the bottom half. I don't think you guy's would believe me if I told you I painted this in my back yard. Oh wait, yes you would... check out the grass and awesome spray booth setup haha.

A little reflection shot after some clear on my bumpers :tup

Under the hood and most of the body, complete. Just need to put her back together.

After all the hard work and day's of kicking ass to get it done... And I'm still rocking the black "Homemadeturbo.com" decal ;D

looks great. Care to do a writeup? What are the names/brands of those colors?

tranceminister 07-05-2006 10:40 PM

Re: Trance's Homemadepaintjob

Yes I do have experience. I work for a bodyshop but I mainly spray the Single stage urethanes. This was my first Base/Clear job :) I used RM/Diamont paints and clear for this one.

Wow! I always thought your car was white. Nice job! I really like the color. You have my permission to paint my cars whenever you would like. ;)

Re: Trance's Homemadepaintjob

That's pimptastic. The soapy wheels pick almost makes them look cholo chrome, but the last pictures convinced me you're not :8. The colors are real nice. All you need to do now is black out the windows and put a tail number on it. O0

that looks awesome.

tranceminister 07-05-2006 10:48 PM

Re: Trance's Homemadepaintjob

Yeah thats actually all the wetsanding dust stuck to the wheels, stuff makes quite a mess on the windows too. This is the same car you went for a ride in Stealth remember??? "I'll brush ya fu@kin' knee's son" :D

awsome! i demand a write up. I think i might end up painting my car all on my own. Trading work with others never works out as planned.

Re: Trance's Homemadepaintjob

Thanks fellas, yup thats a homemade paint booth too! It took a little planning out to build but for a paintjob that probably cost me $600 total including the supplies to build the HMT spray booth, I can't complain. Oh, and no it's not the Nissan color, it's actually a GM color and the black was a Honda black. Yeah CSaddict last time you saw it which wasn't too long ago it was a mess and still in primer.

Re: Trance's Homemadepaintjob

Hah ah you guy's know me... I retired from the HMT handjobs a while back. I hear Mr. Frank gives a pretty good "slicker" though, haha. Also, I havn't even had a chance to wetsand and buff it yet. What you see is a raw paintjob, no polishes or buffing just yet. I'm waiting for my buffer to get in, then maybe I'll do an HMT buff job writeup. There really isn't much dirt specs or orange peel. Just keeping everything as clean as possible and knowing what your spraying (your tecnique) is probably going to save you alot of time in the end. Not to mention I had to work around rainy, hot and humid weather. Theres alot you guy's didn't see that I ended up learning the hard way. Clearing on a hot humid day is definately a no-no...
I'll take some better pictures (H-T style) a little later on. I just finished the car up so I havn't even had much time to drive it or even find some good spots for snapping pictures. Doing the engine bay was a little tricky. I had to strip as much as possible out and bag up the engine pretty good to prevent overspray. Then to add a nice touch I cleared all the areas your eye will see (shock towers etc.) JDMfantasy hit me up sometime, I'll get you in for some dyno time and we'll see what we can do with your new setup :D
