Here is the thing ls blocks usually have what 150k+ on them. Reving a stock high mileage ls block to 8000+is going to kill what little is left in the motor.

Reality if your going to do and do it right get ready to bore the block, oversized pistons etc etc etc

Or buy a b20 block and slap the head on and call it a day.

The head had alone was well over a grand

In reality your run of the mill all motor d will be 130-145 in a good day. Refrence the wheeze which made 130 had and 14.1 compression and a good head, its not that easy.
Quoted because this is exactly what I said about a week ago to you in the beach house.

You only have $1500 and you want reliability first, power second. As much as I hate B16s, for what kind of money you have, B16 is the way to go.

if you can get an Ls swap for 700, I would go with that and just forget about the vtec trans and worry more about the head/ your other build

LS with B16 pistons, valvetrain, 404s. 160 to 170whp and faster than a VTEC engine at those power levels because it's not peaky. You get more power out of fiddling cam gears and port work, you can break 200 on those cams. Plus, 30mpg in a 91 CRX Si is what guy I tuned is getting from his setup.

I'd say just swap in a stock B16 for the reliability factor. Mine was swapped in with around 50-60k miles on it and it's got about 100k+ on it now and it still runs like a champ. ***** on 5.0 and 4.6 mustangs with bolt ons (not supercharged cobras of course), so it's got enough power at high RPMs but still behaves like a d16 at low RPMs for the daily drive. It's on par with LT1 camaros but LS1's will still walk away from me. As far as import cars around here there hasn't been much competition, although I did race a new Si (2dr) and he managed to keep up.

But the important thing for me is how reliable it's been, not that it's quick - that's just a bonus.

Just incase you need video proof (yes I know it's ------- dark).

The only things I've had to do to it have been minor with the exception of a brand new distributor, and I think it's about ready for a head gasket but that's my fault for letting it over heat a couple times without a radiator fan.

gunna have to call you out on that

i raced a hatch with a b16 with full bolt ons in my vert camaro when it was stock and i pulled so hard on him it wasn't even a race...

and if a new si "kept up" with you, no lt1 or ls1 powered car will even be close.

i believe the 5.0 part
