Today I picked up a D16Z6 block and head, pretty good condition too, I want to tear it all down and I want to clean all the grime and crap off the block what cleaners should I use and how would I clean it? I need this thing spotless for my future buildup.

 

rip it apart and take it to a machine shop and have it hot tanked.

thats the best way and it is cheap like $20-$30

otherwise get a heated pressure washer and a few cans of engine degreaser

I'm too tired to think where cleaning a block fits under, anyways can I just use a tub of hot water and some detergents to take the dirt off? its indoors where its warm and i'll dry the block right after.

 

you need to get of oil& grease not dirt, you need degreasers but hot water will wash them off so soaking it wont help. You said you want it real clean, than take it to a hot tank.

 

HMT style. spray on a ton of degreaser, put it on a disposable aluminum tray and put it in the oven and back it
at 300degrees for 15 minutes. while hot, straight out the oventake it outside spray some more degreaser on it, let it soak in/cool off for 5 minutes, then spray it with high water pressure outta garden hose.

 

Just leave your motor on the stand spray some degreaser on it then pressure wash it. If you dont have a pressure washer bring it too a car wash and do it their.

And be sure to dry it well and spray the insides of the block with WD40 or something afterwards, so the sleeves don't rust or anything.

 

I can see that being a fun little job. Who's going to stick a ------- engine in the oven?
