Re: somebody talk to me about the old subaru legacy turbos
How bout this. EJ20TT. Yes it's a in a Impreza but hell it's pretty much the same thing. Snails were relocated from the rear of the engine to the front since the steering components and master cylinder are in the way in a USDM legacy.

Re: somebody talk to me about the old subaru legacy turbos
Now that's sexy! :-* I did notice though when I was rebuilding the head on my ej25 that in my 97 legacy gt there is an immense amount of empty space towards the back corner of the motor on the passenger side...right where the turbo sits on my fiance's wrx. I might have also found a manual parts donor car so I can get rid of my slush-box...If I'm gonna go that far I might as well make use of the downtime to fab in a little boost. Anyone have any links to the main weakness's of the ej25 open deck motors? Obviouslt c/r is a little high, and people bitch about the sleeves being weak, but ----...honda is open deck and I never had any problems with them (except for one little wastgate incident that split a sleeve :l ). Maybe it's time to do a hard-core HMT ej25 build with a filled block. ;D

Re: somebody talk to me about the old subaru legacy turbos
ej25 are pretty good. the open deck isnt much of an issue, but it will limit boost. the headgaskets go bad but you must have replaced them if you did headwork.
throw some sti stock internals in it and have fun. i wouldnt recommend filling the block. for pretty much any suby there wouldnt be alot of fabbing. you could use: wrx header/uppipe/turbo wrx dp and exhaust(the exhaust has to be lengthened 3" and a hangar or 2 needs to be relocated) i had the same setup on my 5spd 2.2l BD sedan. lots of fun. |
