They have to get something for treating people like you. If medicare was "universal healthcare" than nobody would need to have their own insurance.
That's like working a worthless job and still qualifying for unemployment, so you take it. It's a sorry excuse for someone else to hold your hand through life.
It's called working for what you have, and if you can't get it, than you ain't got it. Plain and simple, because if you are given things in life that you wouldn't be able to normally afford, there is always someone thats paying the bill for you. How fair is that? And it's probably some "rich people" that you guys say you hate so much. So much for being thankful. :P

Believe me, the "rich people" bitch and moan about taxes and such more than anybody.

What about the 19 year old, who's going to school, paying his way through college by working at a campus pizza joint, barely scraping by. Let's say his parents are deadbeats/don't have insurance/won't cover him/aren't around... any of the above. He can't afford $100 a month for health insurance, no way. Yet let's say he gets hurt/contracts a disease, virus/has a genetic disorder. He can't pay for healthcare, because doctors bills are too expensive and he doesn't have insurance. He doesn't have insurance because it's too expensive also and no one provides it for him. Why is healthcare so expensive? Because of lawsuits against doctors, inflated drug costs, healthcare provided for people who can't pay, etc. And it just keeps getting more expensive. This is an industry that needs government regulation, or else the trend will continue. If cars get more expensive, a company like Kia will come out with something that can sell at $6000 new. Healthcare isn't like that. Because all doctors are held to the same standards and there really aren't ways to cut costs while remaining (relatively) safe like in the auto industry.

While it would be nice to have healthcare that the government didn't have to monitor, the fact is that's not possible. That fact is made painfully obvious by the fact that Medicare exists and legislation that will increase benefits under Medicare is very popular.

We werent' talking about helpless children and seniors. That is a given that they recieve medical treatment.
You never said that we should have universal healthcare, but you are arguing that everyone should have free healthcare if they can't afford it. I'm not disagreeing with you because I don't think everyone should be healthy, I'm disagreeing with you because the only way you could ever take care of everyone, is if working class people (no matter what bracket) have to foot the bill for all of the lazy *** people in the country.
So then you have lazy *** people that get thier ---- for free, the working class should have thiers for free. It just wouldn't work. And the working class isn't going to stop working so they can get free healthcare like the lazy people, so they're gonna have to pay. All in all, it either wouldn't work, or it wouldn't be fair. Lazy people are not to be rewarded.

I'm arguing that healthcare is needlessly expensive and big corporations, laywers, and the healthcare industry itself are increasing profits to the detriment of common society. It's like car insurance. If it wasn't the law to have it, it would be much more expensive becasue only 40-50% of people would carry it. The law of large numbers says if the risk is ------ over a larger group of paying customers (i.e. taxpayers who pay for health insurance through their taxes) then the expense of such insurance will decrease significantly. This is not a permanent solution; I don't know what is. But in my opinion it's the only way to stop the healthcare freight train.

I'm sure there are tons of ways to lower the cost of healthcare. My first priority would be to keep illegals from using the system at all. Then I would look at the actual system itself. Handing the whole thing over to the government doesn't seem like the best easy way out, though.

Why don't you sit down and think for five minutes about what the healthcare system would be like in 10-15 years if the government doesn't start regulating it, and then get back to me.

Saying "the government is too big, I don't care if it could actually help us, lets take away 50% of it's authority" is a total cop out. It's nice to say, but what would actually happen if it was made smaller/less powerful? It would be even more easily corrupted by big business, that's what. Among many other problems that would create.

so you would rather government hold you hand all your life? you would rather do like canada did and have it all go to hell like social security? might just be a hint if you cant afford to live till your 80 then DONT. start planning now and save that money you would have spent on any turbo project or anything else then get back with me. when you get older youll understand better
