Rust repair is rust repair, man. You either cut all the rust out and weld in new metal, replace the part entirely with a non-rusted one, or you grind as much off as you can (preferably all of it) and coat it with anti-rust solvent.

My rear bumper (the bumper itself, not the cover, the metal bar on the inside) is rusty as hell. I ground off what I could and coated it with rust remover and called it a day. You're driving a tincan Honda anyways, don't worry too much about the bumpers...

Pretty much unless you can find a yard willing to cut off a panel for you, and you can weld it in, I would just use fibreglass. And bondo. Lots of bondo.

Most hardware stores should sell fibreglass + resin. Any autoparts store should have bondo. Fibreglass will stick to metal, just use lots of resin and make sure the metal is clean.

You can buy a kit at Walmart for cheap in the auto section. Gotta do this soon to the hatch. Midwest winters are nice but damn then for being so generous with the salt. No fancy ---- for me. Just sand her down and lay on some fiberglass and paint that ----. It's a beater for me but I'm getting that gangsta lean on my bumper and don't want that ****** falling off or one day just start dragging on the ground.

You can also buy the fiberglass at Discount Auto, or go to a body paint supplier and get the stuff there. You can pretty much shape it however you want while it's wet, then when it dries up, sand it, use a little of bondo, or filler, sand it and that's it.

Of course this is after you remove the rust or neutralize it. I would make templates with project board that you can later use as a base for the fiberglass.

That's how I will fix my hatch. maybe, someday.
