Rust Repair Write-ups
Ive been lookign tha last like 3 days to find some writeups with pictures of rust repair. Ive used google and the search engine on here but the only hit i got was of softlyzs repair on his crx and then repairs with no pics. I was wondering if you guys would be kind enough to post up some links to some good rust repair. thanks also anyone have any idea on what to do witha rusted out rear bumper?

You basically have two options.
1) Remove the rust. That means everything. Cut it out, grind it out, use a disolver... whatever you have to do. If this is done, you obviously have to replace it. 2) Neutralize the rust. There are a bunch of products out there that neutralize the rust. Naval jelly is a popular one that comes to mind. You get rid of most of the rust (just the ---- that flakes off), then spray this over it. Once it's on, let it dry, then sand it down so it's smooth. Hope this helps. -Colin |

dont forget to make paper templates before u start removing big chunks of sheet metal from ur car ;)

Well, seeing as you have a CRX in your Avitar, The rear bumper or Rebar, should come out and off, you can replace this with a new one, or in this case you probably cant find a new one, so here is what you need:
Grinder, Safety Glasses, 15 Guage sheet metal 20Guage if youre doing thin metals like body pannels A good mig welder, weling wire, weding mask. Ok, to start off, lightly grind the whole surface of where youre working, to uncover more potential rust, after you found the rust, you must cut it all out, basically a 1" hole will turn in to a 2" hole or something within thoes proportions. After you grind out all the rust, make a template out of construction paper and cut it to the appropriate size and dimensions, bazically you have to make the shape bigger than the area you are welding by a few milimeters 7 or 8 or 1/4" so you can overlap, weld in your piece of steel where the hole used to be. and then youre done. paint the surface of the bumper support with a anti rust paint, then oil guard it. I promise you that rust will never start there again. For body pannels its a bit different if youre repairing rust holes, the piece of metal has to be exact or close to exact, then when you have it welded in you must grind down any overlap smooth with the rest of the metal, then weld again if you have to, then grind it so everything is flush, then you apply Bondo and go from there. I hope this helps, I have done body work before, Infact I made my own 1/4 pannels for my 5th gen civic, Bumble ZC can vouch for that, he saw them, they turned out OK, you cant notice them being Home Made ;) Unless you really look close., Bodywork is a pain, but sometimes it definetly pays off if you plan on keeping your vehicle for a long time and want it to look nice. that that rex is mine i bought it off of biggmike. i want to replace the rear bumper because it is basically all rust and wont hold for ----. also i dont think this thing is like cancered with rust yeah it has the rust ont he 1/4s but i dont event hink it is that serious i guess i jsut have to grind it down and then take a look see to see how bad it really is. waht do yall suggest i do as far as the fender flare is concerned? it will be a bitch for me to fabricate a replacement piece with the same line as that flare. oh yeah is it leagal to drive around with no rear bumper?

to reapir the rust around my rear fenders i actually used dry wall corner bead 2 bonda and it came out nice
