Road Racers
Just want to know how many of you guys are planning on taking your cars to the road coarse this next year for racing or lapping/instruction?
I know Jeff and Adam had a lot of fun! I had a blast going last year too, and the season will start again in March here in the northwest. |
Re:Road Racers
Well I am definatly going to do it again this year.. Should be a bit more fun with a B-series swap rather than the Mini-me. I really need to do something about my brakes next year. Road racing is just so incredibly hard on them. But my main goal next year will be drag racing :) We just got to get Beaus ass out their!

Re:Road Racers
im down if they let turbo cars run. Jeff posted a thing about road racing and it said no turbo's :-\ but i would love to go road racing as long as it isnt too damn expensive...
|
Re:Road Racers
would they let me race a 500hp 67 camaro street legal dragster? without slicks of course.

Re:Road Racers
does that car even turn? (half kidding)...

Re:Road Racers
Run turbos? What do you think Adam was running on both his schools? Jim is involved in the West Coast Honda-Challenge, and I believe there is no class for forced induction. Just the hybrid class and there are some strict rules in their. Road Racing and competing is very expensive. a full scca cage is required.
The schools are expensive, but the fun factor over weighs it. Its 10 times what the thrill of drag racing is, and you learn lots of great driving skills. If I can afford it, I will go to every event this year. Random-strike, Absolutely! On my first road racing school, there were all kinds of domestics out their. a few chevelles and some older mustangs tearing it up (literally) Jeff |
Re:Road Racers
yeah i was refering to the Honda-Challange thing. damn i was reading those rules and it doesnt even allow aftermarket ECU's...

Re:Road Racers
heh, it turns pretty good, it has polyueorthen bushings (bah i'm a terrible speller)
it has really tight sway bars too. just gotta drift and almost crash around every corner. but i'd be ok i'd be out cornered but never out accelerated :P it will turn better than any honda if i bought one of those chassisworks g-machine camaro front ends. with huge 4 wheel corvette disc brakes. but they're damn expensive tonight i got the front of my crx ready to hold intercooler. i could never get the bumper off. it was dark and raining and the garage is full so i was under the overhang. i think i had to un bolt the two bar things that hold the bumper on or something. pain in the ass :P but i cut up the grilling in the front really nice, its going to look sweet with the conquest intercooler in there. i got raped on my manifold/turbo adapter plate construction, but its really nice. has studs with alan wrench holes in them and it goes from circle to rectangle (manifold to t3 turbo). it'll flow a lot better and won't get so hot. only thing is the daytona bolt pattern is wierd but i got around it. cost me 125 dollars just for the plate. damn union metal shop workers and their 50 dollar and hour rates. http://www.crpud.net/~jbliss/lpics/m...lle_dakota.jpg |
Re:Road Racers
Honda challenge does not have a class that allows turbo charged cars. It has a class called H1 that is for Hybrids, although it is still a little restrictive. The bottom end must be assembled from stock Honda parts only, so you could use a motor from an NSX if you wanted to (no matter how uncompetitive it may be). The cylinder head is open to any mods, but the intake manifold must again be honda.
I will be racing in a class next year in the northwest which is SPU, and does allow turbos. It is a catch all class for bastardized cars like hybrids like mine and many import racers. That Camaro is way too nice to take the track to race, although it could be fun to go lapping in. Hate to see it get balled up. I have seen some nice old maros and novas at drivers schools. Road racing is not cheap, and many of the club racers spend around $10K a year on racing, although many do it for $5K too. Jim |
Re:Road Racers
yeah i know what you're saying. i'd hate to have someone bump me. that would be terrible. the car is worth about 20,000
|
Re:Road Racers
My thoughts on turbo at the road coarse are this. Build it to last, and don't go overboard. I may even try to build a nice turbo hybrid if the whole WCHC doesn't pan out. It is allowed in some of the classes, although you have to realize that the competition is pretty ferocious.

Re:Road Racers
I'm definitely going to try to make it out to a track this summer. It always seems like I've got to be working during the organized track days. Personally, I'd like to get my suspension worked out before I start building an engine.

Re:Road Racers
WHOA! They have road racing up here?? Whenever the next one is in WA I want to go! :D
|
Re:Road Racers
Yes, they are a lot of fun. I usually let a bunch of people know when the events are and try to get a group of cars. Of course, all the events are schools with instructors in the car with you guiding you along. It is by no means slow, unless the instructor thinks you are unsafe or is scared of your car, right Jeff?
"Whats that? Check engine light? Oh ----! Is there something wrong? whats going on?" |

Re:Road Racers
Oh Yeah, the instructors are not used to honda engines either. They might start yelling "shift..Shift...SHIFT!!!" at about 5000 rpm, and your sitting there saying, "Uh, it redlines at 8500 rpm". ;D

Re:Road Racers
the guys on the dyno thought/were hoping we were kidding...

Re:Road Racers
so do you have an instructor sitting in the passenger seat with you? and do you have to take some sort of class before you go? I also heard that in order to do these kind of races you have to have a rollcage installed in your car, is this true?
|
Re:Road Racers
The events that are possible to get involved with and requirements for them generally are:
Drivers Education, using street cars. Instructors are with you in the car. Focus is usually smoothness, braking technique, line, track safety, vision. Racing Schools, using street cars. The only difference from the above is that they may focus on the vision and line a little more, get into threshold braking, throwaway corners and such. You may also become aquanted with some of the procedures in races. Lapping days, using street cars. Usually you need to have some of the above experience before they let you onto the track by yourself, like 4 days of instruction. Even then, you are usually watched and given feedback via notes from corner stationed instructors. Road Racing, using fully prepared race cars. You must go through the entire licensing process (I am only halfway there), and prepare your car for the class you are going into. This usually involves a minimum of a 6 point roll cage, window net, race seat and harness, fire system, drivers gear (suit, gloves, shoes, helmet). Solo I is like autocross, but done on a big road coarse. It requires a roll bar (4 point) and harness, and the drivers gear. You compete against the clock for lap times. We have available in the NW, BMW club school in Spokane, IRDC race school at Pacific Raceway, Team Continental and Cascade schools in Portland. The northwest sanction body for road racing is called Conference, and there website is http://www.icscc.com |

I think you should have a new avatar, how about a nice pic of some of your famous cracked out brake rotors?, and a cool sig that says "Blown S2000 w/ Del Sol Pads" ;D ;D Thanks for joining us Ray! Jeff |
Re:Road Racers
I kind of get a kick out of seeing the blown F20C, especially since it is not mine. That car simply hauls ass. I can't think of a Honda that is faster on the track in the northwest.

|
Re:Road Racers
nevermind, i found the website for the north eastern region of scca
|
Re:Road Racers
Cool, you might also want to check out NASA. They are big in some areas. Neither NASA or SCCA are big in the Northwest, we have ICSCC. You might also check out the BMW club, Porsche club, and Alfa club in your area, they usually have schools available.
I am not even sure what tracks are close to you, Watkins Glen? Honda-tech forum has a big road race/autocross section with lots of east coast guys. You can probably find some guys to meet up with. |
Re:Road Racers
