Quick chipping question
 

I just chipped my friend's p72 and I can't get my y7 to start on it, I was under the impression that any obd1 ecu can start any obd1 car. I put my boost chip in the p72 and I cant get my car to start with it. I also noticed my p06 has a resistor the p72 is missing and I was under the impression this resistor needed to be replaced, r54 for anyone who wants to look. The p72 doesnt even have an r54 but it does have an r52 which in my p06 came stock with a resistor but the p72 doesnt have one. It wont even start so maybe it's not reading the chip and throwing it into limp mode which isnt going to happen with a stock 240cc map on 450's in my car. Anybody who chipped their own GSR could chime in and tell me what resistors they added, maybe I'll figure it out after I stare at the board a little, oh well. I guess my question is, does the resistor even do that much and should I install the resistor that comes with the kit in r52 because the p72 doesnt have an r54?

I have a friend that could help me but he's not answering his phone. I'm getting a solid cel when I turn the key to on so I guess it just cant read the chip, because I know the chip is good, and I know my jumper is connected which tell it to read the chip so the solders on the connector for the chip must be bad I guess, they look good though.

When I disconnect the jumper it still has a solid cel? A stock GSR ecu should at least try to start my car shouldnt it? wtf

There is no R54 on P75/72.

Either your chip is crap, or your socketing is crap.

Have you ever heard of pgmfi.org's Wiki? Why ask a bunch of brokedick ----------ers in HMT GD Forum, when you can to di-rectally to the font of all knowledge?

pgmfi.org doesnt respond as fast as HMT, I know my chip is good, it works on my other chipped ecu. My soldering job looks good and I have chipped a bunch of ecu's before but I guess I could have screwed something up. So do I put the resistor that cam with the kit in R52 or do I just not use it? And I also cant figure out why I have a solid cel with the jumper disconnected.

well you have bigger problems if j1 isnt connected and there is a solid ecu code. I have chipped a few p72 and like jd said there is no r54 so dont even worry about it.

JD, chill out, I've looked at the wiki before, it cant help me right now. I probably just need someone to look at my soldering job and be like look at this, if thats the case I will. Honestly I have no idea whats wrong right now, when I get my friends GSR back and can start troubleshooting with that we'll see what happens. In the meantime I'll get rid of that resistor, hook j1 back up and hope for the best. I've soldered and resoldered a bunch of connections and it still does nothing, I dont know how I could have screwed up the whole ecu though, oh well, we'll see.

j1 cut has nothin to do with the chipping if it still has the solid cel.
