The assumed problem with religion is that people make decisions based on their morals and beliefs. If we can shame people enough for making their decisions based on something as crazy as god, then we can belittle their views and move forward with the gay rights, kill your babies laws, and start feeling sorry for murderers instead of ending them and saving tax dollars from feeding thier worthless mouths.

I mean, sure, you can go to church and believe in whatever you want, but making decisions in life based on your beliefs? Oh knOOOOOzzzz. We can't let that happen. ::) -The Athiest.

I don't get it, there's proof by first century historians that a man named Jesus did exist in those days, and that he attracted people with his teachings and those people later formed a religion based on the old jewish teachings and the new christian teachings. There's no doubt about that.

If you believe in god or not, is a different story, but the man named Jesus did exist. I guess some people are just way too ignorant to know better.

There's a case in the states of another priest abusing little kids, this one is being charged, which is good, finally. There's way too many crooks hiding behind religion, and trying to get away with things that if any of us tried to do would get in trouble. This is sad, people have lost faith in a higher being because of this.

These types of topics usually turn to ----, so that's all from me.

The problem is you have absolute idiots on both sides. Every Athiest I see has never read the Bible. How can you cast judgement on something you know nothing about? I have read plenty of Athiest things and they have no valid points most of the time. I have yet to see a Athiest prove the Bible wrong.

Here is a quote from my Evolutionary Biology teacher: " Evolution just works guys, thats the way it is. No matter how you look at it, this is what happens. This is the how. We have no clue as to the why. Anyone who doesn't believe in a higher power is just stupid".

I think the real truth lies somewhere in the middle.

I agree with alot of people, it seems that more often than not, these self claimed "atheists" that stir up the big media controversy over issues like this, have little to know knowledge on what they are opposed to, and just start ---- to start it. Ignorance feeds the fire in this case, when they make accusations against parts of religion that they no nothing about. If you want to start condemning people or groups, you better have a reason, and know your facts first!

Well let the games being....

Evolution is a THEORY, its not called the "law of evolution" Science is based on facts and the best information we have to date. Therefore, the a theory can changed based on new ideas. Evolution is a theory, not fact that is based on many many facts that says evolution is probably right. On the other hand religion is based on blind faith. The only thing to support creationism is a book written by men and religion points to that book and says "this is the way it is becuase thats what it says it is"

the bible can be proven wrong time and time again. Case in point: the great flood.

Re: Priest may face trial for saying Jesus existed

It's all politics. If you base your beliefs on things that have to do with church, everyone is quick to say "seperation of church and state", but if church helped form their beliefs, does that mean nobody that believes in a religion should be able to hold office?

It's politics, and the fags and minorities are hoping to do just that.

I have a tendency to be pretty ignorant about religion and write it all off as made up stories etc. There is some great benfits to it as it has helped many people in bad situations get by.The statement i said above is a example of saying something pretty ignorant as people are entitled to believe in anything they want and shouldnt be judged for it.I just wish all the different religions could get along and quit wanting to kill each other.I think it depends alot if you believe in only the proven or in what is not unproven.

Becuase we can date ancient civilizations to have lived through the great flood and this goes against the bible's belief that everything on Earth was killed. The church was a big opponent to decifering Egyptian hieroglyphics becuase the information they found would go against the idea of the great flood.

Also the idea that dinosaurs never existed and the earth is 10,000 years old can also be proven wrong.

BigD 01-27-2006 02:44 PM

Re: Priest may face trial for saying Jesus existed

How can we date civilizations to live through the flood? Don't say carbon dting because it has be proved wrong! There was a study done on a certain animal that said it was 1000's of years old. Shortly after it jumped off the table and they put it back in it's cage....

Also the Bible is not certain. It was traslated. The Catholic church didn't let half of the truth come out. Not only that people added things to make the religion more appealing. There are actually pagen practices in Christianity that most don't even realize.

Yeah I heard this arguement too from someone else that carbon dating is flawed. Well than look at the stars. Through the red shift on stars we can date them to hundreds of thousands of years old, made before the bible existed.

All religious events are pagan. It was easier for the church to adapt pagan rituals to their own religion to manipulate people easier.

BigD 01-27-2006 02:57 PM

Re: Priest may face trial for saying Jesus existed

The Bible never states anything about the stars. Just because the stars are so old means nothing about Earth. The Bible never said God's first creation was Earth.

"Two books this century have significantly influenced the way in which many conservative Christians interpret the geological evidence for the flood. These are George McCready Price’s The New Geology (1925) and Henry Morris & John C. Whitcomb’s The Genesis Flood (1961). Both of these works rejected many of the assumptions of modern geology and attempted to establish flood geology as an alternative explanation for geological features. In both the author(s) noted that the majority of the world’s surface was made up of sedimentary rock they pointed to the flood as the primary agent in their production and deposition. Following on from these works modern Flood Geologists cite a number of evidences in support of their position. a) Large scale, soft-sediment deformation features. The presence of soft-sediment deposits is consistent with rapid deposition a the flood waters receded. It is far more difficult to account for non-consolidated condition if they are viewed as having been formed at great depths over enormous periods of time. b) Wide------, catastrophically deposited sedimentary strata. The sheer size of many areas of sedimentary deposits points to a flood far greater than what we are accustomed to today. c) Wide------ elevated erosional surfaces. The formation of these elevated plains are easily explained in terms retreating flood water, but not in terms of any current geological process (Austin, 1990:221-225). d) Formation of coal deposits underneath floating logs. Research carried out at Spirit Lake following the eruption of Mt. St. Helens has provided empirical support to the theory that coal deposits are not the result of gradual deposition in swamp conditions. Instead they form underneath floating mats of uprooted trees. The trees eventually sink and are covered by sediment, producing a formation identical to the petrified forest in Yellowstone National Park."
Not looking to fight man. Believe what you want, I will believe what I want. It just pisses me off when people make ignorant statements. (that goes for both sides) IE:

No doubt, same here. I think there is a lot of bad information on both sides. There are no telling what the original scripts said. The Catholic church has buried an covered up so much stuff. I believe in dinosaurs and "cavemen". What is so hard to believe that these were ancient humans? That still doesn't prove the Bible wrong. The time system then might have been translated wrong or different.

Like I said above, I think the real truth lies somewhere in the middle.

"The point is not to establish whether Jesus existed or not, but if there is a question of possible fraud," Cascioli's attorney, Mauro Fonzo, told reporters before the hearing.

From a legal standpoint, he is 100% correct.

Personnally I think Mary was a dirty ----- who took it balls deep in the poop shoot and lived in a day and age when women were persecuted for being dirty unwed -----s who took it in the poop shoot. Joseph drove the Bang Bus and she could have been stoned to death for admitting otherwise and had every reason in the world to lie.

Immaculate conception, come-on Mary ::)

I for one don't respect a fallacy. There are plenty of good teachings in religion but the interpretation of said religion is what ends up skewed.

i also wonder, what people who dont believe in any higher power at all... what do they think is going to happen when they die. how could everything just stop? is that what you want? for yourself and your soul not to exsist at all anymore? as for me, i want to keep being myself for eternity, even after i die.

When I die I think I'm going to go back to the same state I was in before I was born. You know when you get knocked out for surgery, and you wake up but can't remember anything and it felt like even a second hasn't passed? Well that time you were knocked out is death except you don't wake up. However if I'm right this means life is cyclical and therefore life is meaningless since we just return to where we started from.

Thats what I think but I won't know for sure until I die. Einstein was one of the greatest scientist ever and he believed in god. In his words he was trying to read the mind of God.
