Poly Sci

So, I'm taking a political science class. I'm sitting here reading this text, and it's comparing the basic difference in viewpoint between conservatives and liberals. Here:

The chief difference between conservatism and liberalism is the view each takes of human nature. Where the conservative is at best cautiously hopeful that the ordinary person will, in a well-ordered state, manifest the admirable characteristics of loyalty, patriotism, and piety, the liberal takes a much more egalitarian view. The liberal believes that human beings - all human beings - are capable of reason and rational action
All I keep thinking is that, according to liberals, Johnny Bliss is capable of reason and rational thought. This defies the obvious truth of the matter... and brings me back around to Johnny being a liberal-bashing conservative.

Guys, the whole system is irrevokably fucked. :3

Re: Poly Sci

Mr. Yoseph,

You must understand that all of these people are out of their damn minds. While Republicans "Conservatives" (as they call themselves) claim we're all FREE (see: cumbaya mufukaz), don't realize that being free to dick your boyfriend in the ass as far as next door and doesn't effect your household should be a crime. Liberals claim that the government stealing your paycheck before you see it (see: federal withholding) and giving it to any other person (working, not working, another country, etc...) is all fine and dandy, while any private citizen doing the same thing would land them in the clink for robbery.

In the end, your teacher must realize that she'd be honored to have me speak to the class, and after you whippersnappers went home, she'd bow down to these nuuuutz.

She's about 60. I daresay she'd love your bowzack, Steve, but only if you indoctrinate her lyrically.

She might be 60, but my cutoff is 6-2 ziggen. Clear that up then I'll swing by.

Re: Poly Sci

My poly sci professor was a retired judge. He explained to the class why he was a republican. He was God loving, self righteous and proclaimed wealthy man. I showed up to the class maybe 10 times and on the final he asked if I was even in the class. Had 3 tests that was the whole grading of the course walked out with a B and joy that I didnt have to hear the bullshit a 65 year old white man proclaims is the logical choices regarding government/life.

the funny thing about politics is that the left wing and the right wing end up connecting after awhile....almost like a circle....

There's some interesting ones and some wacked out ones. You can learn from either if you take it for what it is.

I really enjoyed Poly Sci... it was very interesting.

On the issue of conservative vs liberal, it's getting tougher and tougher these days to distinguish the two sides. I am for LESS government involvement, less government spending/programs, and thus less taxes. Ron Paul's idea of taxing money being spent instead of income makes a lot more sense. I think this would promote saving money (something this country is horrible at doing), and boost the economy.

you are right about your first two points, but saving money does not boost the economy. its quite the opposite.

We need more capital goods spending and less consumer spending. That's something that will change with time, hopefully.

You work on the trade deficit by buying/producing capital goods and then producing consumer goods with them :1

Work on trade deficit by not shopping walmart and buying lead-laden toys for the children.

I always try to consume conspicuously, so that the people around me can learn by example. It works on television, so why can't I start my own viral meme?

A won't argue with "a lot," but definitely nowhere near a majority.

A majority are stupid
A majority don't care
A majority are too poor to buy American
A majority don't realize what buying foreign junk does

A minority cares enough to shop somewhere else

Give us some time. If we get a chance to clear out the socialist and unions america will be prime for production. It's almost already getting to the point where it's cheeper to make things here rather than shipping them from asia.

My generation coined the word, and spoonfed you all our canned concepts via television. You are a derivative of my generation, and I assure you nothing unique or sophisticated will arise from you.

The dudes on bangbus are our age. They are the ones driving the bangbus, and doing the -------. So what if every 17-19 y/o girl to ever turn Yuriney down appears on an episode? It's still a product of our generation, not his.

Re: Poly Sci

Anyway, this is an online class and the instructor just made a post referring to socialism and communism as forms of democracies because they are of the people. I just asked her to clarify, cited where the text excluded (by omission) communism from taking democratic form. Also in the text it cites socialism, feminism, liberalism, and conservatism as turning to democratic means as a preferred method of effecting change, whereas communism prefers "revolution." I'm curious how a democracy can be of and by the people when it siezes the means of production from the people?

I dunno, it sounds good in abstract theory and everyone who reads it gets a warm fuzzy, but that Marxist ----, "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need," makes me think of the already extant masses of fools expecting me to make their chinese kitted shitwagons to work for them. The last thing I need is mob rule where fools tell me what my business is. That is ------- disaster.

J-SMITH69 09-02-2008 08:11 PM

Re: Poly Sci

socialism and communism ARE NOT of the people. you are right, its obviously not.

when the few in power in the govt have the power and are not elected, thats not "the people"
