Re:painting ur car
well, here is what do in school. first and formost, you fix any imperfectionsin the body. i mean any. rust, dents, everything. use body filler or fiber hair to get this done.
then i just use some primer. i forget what kind. i think slef etching primer on the spots that you fixed. thenm what i would do is just wet sand the whole ar past the clear coat. then i would use primer again, then sealer, paint, paint, paint, clear, clear, clear. or use a single stage.
dont quote me at all.

Hey man if you've never done it before don't do it, unless you get ---- load of practice or go to school... it's just something you can't do uless you have the knolage and experience, just have someone else do it for you who knows how or go to shool...

Re:painting ur car
its not that hard, you gotta learn sometime, and its best to do it on YOUR car, and not someone elses. Or find a buddy with a junker that you can practice on.
BUT, in between each coat, i suggest sanding with 400 grit paper, and when you get to the last couple coats, get a finer grit, then on the last coat, go to an extremely fine grit, then finish it off with some polishing compound to get that mirror finish.

the car is becoming coroded pretty fast and i have to keep it alive by fixing it because my turbo will be due this summer
ive painted my hood and its come out fairly nice

pass 2 coats of color
3 coats of clear
and compound it after a sanding
im not sure when to sand though

Re:painting ur car
Well I have been painting on and off since high school and I still suck compared to other people. But I do have the steps down. Some of theses are repeats.
1. Go buy these grits of sand paper
a.220
b.400
c.800
d.1500
e.2000/2500 these are critical to getting a great looking paint job for less money. Meaning buy cheap paint.
d.220 in the long sanding surf sandpaper
2. I start off with fiberglass bondo. It doesn't shrink real bad and it still sands nice. Before you start sanding get a black magic marker and look at your door for any and all dents. You will need to circle them before you sand over then for bondo. Cuz when you do you cant see the real small ones anymore. Use the 220 grit for this step. it holds real good. Fill them in and let dry. The bondo dries faster if it is in the sun.
3. Sanding Surf If you don't have one the paint supply store sells them cheap and they are worth while to have. they are a real long sanding board with a handle on them. Mine was $17.99. You have to buy the special sandpaper with these. But get it in 220 also. The surf follows the body lines real nice. If your car is really rounded then go get a flexable one at o'reillys. They are even cheaper. Just sand away and feel the body while you sand so you don't go to far or not far enough. Do this for several days if your car is real bad. Always prime it at the end of a work peroid.
4. Now that your body is straight or damn sexy for the ladies. You will need to tape off the car. This should take a day to do if you want it to look nice when you take the tape off. If you do a bad job and you have a color like yellow. Your molding will be yellow on spots and it looks like ----. If you can take as much molding off the car as you can. Little tip on crx's-> The door molding comes off the door real easy. Maybe civics the same year and newer too I don't really know. The Windshild and back quarter glass have a little rubber lip on the gasket. Pull it up slowly. You should do this in the sun if possable. iT makes it soft. When it is pulled up tape it on the car like this. that way when you take the tape off the lip lays on the paint and its really hard to tell if you painted the car or not. If you are going to paint your morrior (Sp its late sorry) do it now. That way you don't have to paint around them and you get even coat. Take out windsheild washer nosseles and emblems. Becareful not to break them. Tape off your wheels real good. Paint gets everywhere.
5. Ready to paint If the car has been sanded with 220 all over you are ready. You will need these thing to paint
a. Gun $80
b. sealer. its gray
c. Paint. Lighter colors require more paint. Like a gallon
d. clear
e. hardner
f. reducer
g. stir sticks
h. funnel
i. Other little things that they should give you and tell you that you need.
j.Some kind of cleaner solvent. They have it at the paint store to clean the surface before you paint. This takes care of fish eyes and other imperfections that might be on there.
k. a sticky cheese cloth. I used these once and I love them. Right before you paint. I mean right before you paint wipe the car down and get all the little sand and hairs off of it. They are at the paint store.
I will add more later
