see now that's what I was thinking about, but i didn't know if it would work. Have you done it donald?

Learned it a while ago, like ummmm what is it ---- i forgot and yes I am typing as I am thinking it's uhhhhhhhhhhh ahhhhh dammit what is it called ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- has to do with current, either something or something... series and the other one is something else. Damn this sucks not remembering.

i've seen extension cords but they weren't very long. And if you are using it for a welder you want to be as close as possible to the power source

The amperage is completely different. ;) You might be able to make 220v, but you'll only be able to push 15-20 amps, depending on the circuit.

If the dryer is near the garage, use an extension cord. If your dryer uses a 3 prong plug all you need is a big RV extension. They make them pretty long. If your dryer is a 4 prong deal you can still use it, you just need to change the plug and the cord on the dryer, which will cost you about $20.

I've kinda been doing this ---- for over 7 years now. :)

Phases. ;) You just have to make sure the two circuits are on different phases, but it won't matter because you won't have enough amps. Your garage is wired with 12 gauge wire at the most(possibly even 14)and 12 gauge wire is only good for 20amps, whihc won't run your welder.

Not only that, I guarentee your garage only has one circuit(one phase) in it, unless you have a big baller gaarge.

YAY boostie! :-*

well the distance spoon speaks of, is that something I shoudl take into consideration?

and this maybe for a welder :D

The amps shouldn't be too much of an issue since the welder will push it out anyways right?

okay scractch that. Sooooo back to the distance thing, getting an extension cord should pose no problems for welding?

Re: okay you electrically inclined people

Usually the extension cords are oversized so they can flow the proper amount of current. You only need a 10 gauge wire, but the cord will probably be made out of 6-8 gauge to makew up for the extra distance.
