Re:Oil pan return solutions...looking for inputs....
BTW - The flanges pictured above will be ready in the next few days, at least for cast pans.

Re:Oil pan return solutions...looking for inputs....
how much are we looking at spending on these new fittings? i'm stoked on this.

Re:Oil pan return solutions...looking for inputs....
We are not sure yet, but we want to keep it well under $15. It will be cheaper for those with cast pans, as no inside backing flange is needed. Those who will be installing these in stamped pans will have an additional piece on the inside of the pan to make a stiffer final install. Kinda making a sandwhich of the stamped material between the two pieces.
We are also sourcing aircraft hardware for these, as I want our customers to be able to safety wire them in place to further reduce the chance that something will come loose and end up in the mechanicals. The kits will include the flanges, the gasket, the hardware, we may even throw in a bit of safety wire. Craig |

Re:Oil pan return solutions...looking for inputs....
On the placement, the best idea I've heard is as high as possible and in between crank throws to avoid the rods interupting the oil (gravity) flow.

Re:Oil pan return solutions...looking for inputs....
Similiar to Semnos' idea.
Have one flange threaded and the other slip on. People will put the flange they need on the outside. http://www.desktopimports.com/hmt/oil.jpg |
Re:Oil pan return solutions...looking for inputs....
you really don't need a gasket on the inside of the oil pan. Depending on where you mount the return you can actually loose horsepower, no ----.

Re:Oil pan return solutions...looking for inputs....
Shadow - Just picked up the same fuel cell type fitting from Barry Grant. It has the nice radius on the inside and AN 8 on the outside (the T25s are much smaller on the drain side.). There is just no way to ensure the nut does not back off...
Stealthmode - I'm with you on that, it will have to be quite high as well, since the internal baffle gets in the way of anytrhing lower. WhiteRice - Excellent illustration of a great idea. We'll probably do three pieces, the slip, the threaded, and a single backing plate that works for both styles. This will be cheaper for all in the long run. |
Re:Oil pan return solutions...looking for inputs....
using that illustration as a reference, why not have the bolt on the insided coming out and a nut on it there. then if you can find a bolt that has a hole in it you can use some cotter pins to hold it in place. With the nut on the outside inspection is easier aswell.
