Oil pan return solutions...looking for inputs....

Hey HMT Gang,

Now that the T25 oil return flanges are in production (look for them soon!), we are getting ready to develop an oil return flange.

We want to make a flange that will work on the majority of Honda pans.

Can you guys reply with pictures and suggestions of what you think the ideal oil return solution is? We want to see what you have done, what worked and what didn't. We are looking for placement, style, and attachment methods.

We will not be doing a welded solution, as a lot of HMT folks don't have access to a welder. We want to stick a solution that can be implemented with hand tools.

Thanks from Craig @ Tuner Toys

Hand tools plus a drill and jb weld (optional).

That's what Craig meant (right?) but since we're on HMT he just didn't bother putting it in.

I've got no real innovative solutions right now, but if I figure stuff out, I'll forward it to you.

'card' of Kwik Weld (JB Weld just in 4minutes :P) and a heater hose fitting (think it was 1/2inch) from the Schucks "HELP!" section. then i drilled a hole in my pan with a stepped drill bit (or "Uni-bit") till the hole was big enough. cost less than 10bucks...thats how i did it anyway...

some people use a basic flange w/ a neck on it. how about a flange but instead of a straight or angled neck tube you have a threaded hole and include a few angled necks that are threaded with a kit?

(royalties?? ) lol

this would work awesome. then just thread in a barbed 1/2 npt nipple and ride. very easy and guarenteed to work

I would Definatly be buying that flange ASAP....Ive got Stealth mode's Oil return kit, but have nothing to connect the pan hose to except a barb, would really like to see that threaded connection you promise....

i doubt anything they make will only work on hondas...an oil pan is an oil pan for the most part, as far as a return is concerned

i would make a flange like the one showed on ebay, but with a neck on both sides.
one threaded neck and one not threaded.
The non threaded one goes in the oil pan to minimize oil leak for the ones that drilled a hole that might be too big.

Excellent ideas all!

The step bit amd JB weld seem to be the most economical and quick solution, probably the cheapest too!

We do have one planned similar to the one on eBay, although it will be a better looking design, I hope! On the cast aluminum oil pans, a flange design will work fine. In fact we already have a prototype in the works, it has a male AN fitting as an integral part, which is made to work with the Stealthmode style of return line. Check the picture...

However, on the stamped oil pans, the flange will need to be backed up on the oil side, with another flange, to give the gasket good support for sealing.

This brings another question....What is the best mounting location for the oil return, on a stamped oil pan?

Props...
- Semnos, nice idea on the internal neck, that would really reduce the opportunity for seepage of accumulated oil where everything mates up.
- CRX88Si, if we end up with a threaded female flange, the straight, 45, and 90 included necks sounds great!
- Not to leave out the JB Weld crew, way to get it done!
