???I know this may sound dumb but Im just begining to start a race car.My brother gave me a turbo from his old car for free.Its a garrett aiResearch T3 turbo.Would it be ok if I :-\used pvc or felxable piping for the turbo?I dont have 200 to spend off hand for piping :-[.Is there a book that shows me how to install mods?I dont know anything about installing auto parts.If you have the time to answer this then thank you. :)

you could use plastic tubing, but the air won't flow as well

You can use PVC piping, but the heat the turbo puts off, warms the pvc and puts off toxic fumes, which isnt to great for the engine, and yourself.

What is the disadvantage on using flexible piping?

???Will I need a external wastgate?Or could I just use a boost controller?

Anyone know of a site that can show me the "how to" on installing turbos?I want it to be done right or if any of you have advice to help.

Is it better to use smaller piping for turbos?2'' instake would be to big right?Will 1 1/2'' be good enough?

Im going ghetto :D cause I dont wanna spend extra hundreds on high end piping.So ill go home depot style.


Can I use "bilge piping"?It says it work under high temp and pressure conditions.

the piping i was thinking of when i said it wouldnt flow as well is that ribbed rubber piping that was on one of the old turbo projects here

I would suggest using exhaust piping. Just use radiator hose for the joints and use metal piping. That way it has no chance of expanding and it doesnt heat up and give off those toxic fumes.

dont use plastic / rubber/ etc.. Nothing flexable is good.. you want these connections to be hard.. I would use 2.5" electrical conduit before i would use plastic.. I agree if you must go cheap then use exhaust pipe! :P

get exhaust pipes from JC Whitney
4" pipes are too big unless you've got 800hp or so (like Gary Gardella's 1000hp methanol civic it uses a y2k turbo with 4" charge pipes)
