---- a spring compressor, wrap the spring/strut assembly in a blanket, and take the top nut off with an air compressor. the assembly will jolt, but the blanket will suck up so much of the force that there is no risk.

I went to advance auto parts and they "sold" one to my buddy for ~$40, then when you take it back when you're done you get your money back, no problemo. Don't do it ghetto in this case.

If its a honda I have lowered about 10 now and I have never used a spring compressor. I have a 600.00 dollar one at work but I dont bother on hondas.

you guys are all pussies.

get two tires, place the strut in between the two tires. get a wrench and appropriate allen key. place foot on spring/strut so that it doesn't turn. loosen, and right when it looks like the nut is about to come off, make sure you loosen your grip on the wrench. keep turning.

the force of the spring will be absorbed by the two tires, no problem.

I own a spring compressor, but I still just do it the ghetto way.

I used to do it on a futon mattress folded over the spring assembly, hooked up my impact and buzzed the nut off. Worked well, and with any lowered spring, you should be able to install it quite easily with no compression.

I just put a piece of carpet over it and put my foot on it. Just make sure the other foot isn't right behind or in front of it.

I've never personally done, or seen anyone ever use a spring compressor. Maybe the people I know are too ghetto. Seriously though, like people have been saying, get a blanket and cover the assembly (it catches all the ---- that might fly everywhere and absorbs force), and place it against a wall so that the nut "fires" into the wall. You can set up the allen wrench so that you just have to use one hand to twist. The only thing I'd watch out for (besides the obvious spring shooting crap everywhere) is that your wrist might catch a lot of force, so don't hold the wrench/ratchet too tightly.

Thats what we did, but two of the four springs/struts never popped, or jumped. It just fell through. And yeah all those ------ nuts and washers get ------- nasty hot. But we got it done and it looks good. Thanks guys I appriciate the help.
