From the sounds of it The teacher sounds like a guy named Bruce Edwards from Louisville, KY
But I don't think he would think badly of this site as he raced a starlet with a ford 2.3turbo, pretty mcuh cleaned up in a local heads up import drag class. Then they changed the rules on him and he got rid of the car. But the starlet would make any diy proud. Had a supra intercooler mounted in the hood with a scoop made from a trash can.
He now has a Ranger with a 2.3turbo motor in it that runs darn good. I have not talked to him (emails) in a few years but he seemed to be a pretty cool guy.
Here is some pictures of the starlet, It had a bone stock ford 2.3 turbo motor in it with a hit of bottle, went into the 6.70 @ 100mph in the 1/8th

yes bruce edwards is my teacher,
and that was his drag car :P he called it the ugly baby... i guess cuz it was on the bottle and is was mcuh much smaller than his other drag car, wow that is crazy thought u now him :P kinda weird actually, i will research now and ask for this thread to be locked, and yes thanks to all you elder members, and ty even more just for this damn site very helpful
