even tho the weld looks like ass, it would probly hold, and thats all that matters (to me anyway)

Looks pretty good for your first weld ever :P Try grinding about 1/2 inch away from the outside of the pipes you will be welding all the way around, just enought to take that galvanized ---- of. Welding flat surfaces is a little easier to learn at first too, I find welding pipes a bit harder. Keep it up you'll have it soon enought ;)

I would go buy a straight piece of pipe and put a cutting wheel on the grinder and cut it into sections. Then just practice welding them back together.

And yeah, if you get a decent bead that doesn't burn through you can just grind them down flat. Most of that flux residue will come right off with a wire brush.

what helped me a ton is i just layed straight beads over and over again..... then start to weld ---- together in different angles.. get used to every angle cuz a circle is well.. round so you have to follow around it. :) just practice straight beads first off..

I don't think that looks that bad. I'm no welder, but I bet half of these -----s in here didn't do much better on their first try. :P Way to encourage your brother!!! :o

I've only had one welding lesson, given by Ghetto D. All I remember is it's ok to wear sandals when you weld, put the wire in between the cut, close your eyes and squeeze the trigger. You can use this as referance when you practice again tonight. ;D

Hey Anthony, when you gonna hook up MY fridge? 8)

well, i used some of the tips i got in this post and grinded off the galvanized ---- first this time, i also beveled the edge of the pipe a tad (and ran to kmart and picked up a wire brush and some gloves ;D). i was grinding it down after every pass and basically the holes were getting smaller and smaller after ever pass, it's pretty time consuming to grind it down every time, but it looks a hell of a lot better, i didn't grind down the last pass or it would have looked a lot better. how the ---- am i suppose to grind the inside of the pipe where little pieces of wire have come through? i cleaned them up with a wire brush before the pics, i think it's pretty obvious which one is the new one ;) 2nd weld 3vAR!!

If it holds, you can always grind them down more and they will look fine. They look just like my first and only time. The only difference is that mine did not hold at all, and the thing broke off. This makes me want to try again, that was like 2 years ago. My welder looks like yours but is from sears.
