My computer stopped uploading??
 

Is that possible? My computer has been slower than death for the past couple weeks. Every speed test I try to do ends up failing when it comes to the upload test because nothing happens. ??? I can't upload photos, photobucket won't even load and certain other websites won't everr come up. WTF could be wrong?? ???

I've got 1901 download, but when it gets to upload it just doen't do anything. ??? Not just this test, every test I have found does this same thing. :7

Go to run and type:

prefetch

(delete all files in folder)

then go back to run and type:

%temp%

(delete all files in folder)

Turn off computer

Turn off modem and router and locate the reset button in the back. Typically you can press the button with a tip of a pen. Hold down the button for 15 seconds and release and let the modem sync up with the server.

(just a note you might need your login and pass for your internet so dont be pissed if you need it and dont remember it)

Restart and you should be good.

If this fails we will try something else.

Are you sure? There is an assload of files in that "prefetch" folder. Can anybody confirm I'm not going to regret doing this? :l

There are even more files in the %temp% folder. Are you sure it's safe to delete all that ----? :l

It wouldn't let me delete some of those files. It said "Access denied" :l Is that bad? ???

There is a folder called NAIL logs in temp or prefetch on occasion that wont delete. I wouldent worry about it.. Oh yeah you have to close down your internet explorer/firefox/opera or whatever browser your using BEFORE you attempt to delete the files.

Follow my directions in order, and take heed to what I said about the login and password...

...before I log back in to HMT in 7 hours and I find out im banned because you couldent get on the net for a hour until you called your ISP, and had them walk you through the steps to get back online. ::) lol

if you cant upload I would get Hijack this and run it. post up what you find and we will tell you what to ditch. Also check your host file located at c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\host open it with notepad and see if you have any crazy entries in there.

It's a cable modem with an ethernet cable.

I ran ad-aware and it didn't help any. I was wireless, but now I'm plugged directly into the cable modem, no wireless ---- anymore. I wanted to see if that would help, but it didn't. :'(

you sure your cable provider didnt cap your upload? i would call them and check, then they can probly step-by-step you to fix the problem.. might take a while on the phone. but will probly fix the problem.

I had the same exact ---- happen to me. Stumped me for weeks. Ended up being something up with my router.

It's weird because even to surf the net you technically have to send packets (to request data). Do you have problems filling out forms and ---- too?

its impossible for you not to have an upload... everything syncs download with upload.. meaning you cant be looking at this webpage if your computer couldnt upload because it has to send bits/bytes to show what you have recieved.

a cap would have nothing to do with it all cable is capped hella low (usually around 512k-768k)

something has to be going on.. are you running your computer from another? are you on a guest acct and you are locked out of access? hmmm something simple i bet..

There is no cap that I know of.

Every speed test I have tried has paused during the upload. The upload never starts. I can't do anything having to do with uploading(pictures, etc). I'm not a computer guy. I'm just explaining what's happening. :-\

what kind of router are you running? what brand/model cable modem? did you recently install something before this started happening ? have you tried powering down everything (modem, router) by pulling the power source and leaving disconnect for 10 seconds or so? also check for static in your rj6 (coax) do this by removing it from your modem put your fingertip to the center wire then angle your finger so you're touching both the wire and the surrounding screw terminal. if you feel a light shock this is normal thats the static from the line. hope this helps if not reply back with everything else :)

i dont know whats wrong but to brag my download speed is 19,501kb/s and upload is 11,405kb/s

thats impossible unless you are on 50mb fiber optic. and i doubt you are paying 350 a month for your net. also if you were on fiber your up and down would be almost the same.

No router, just a cable modem. It's a "Zoom" modem. I didn't install anything. I left everything unplugged all night and it's still the same this morning. I think you meant to say RG6. I don't feel any shock from the cable. Am I supposed to? ???

no its a good thing that you didnt, static can get built up in the line from carpet, dust.. etc releasing the static keeps your connection fresh and your modem safe.

i have not seen a "zoom" modem but ill do some reasearch on it for you.

It's a Zoom model 5241. It has been working fine for about a year now. I bought it from Staples for like $60 or so. I'll have to use a different internet connection and see if that helps. I'm moving in a few weeks so we'll see.

have you tried using it from usb? http://www.zoom.com/techsupport/cable/cable_5241.shtml < the drivers for it if you havent... the chipsets are ---- on it, does it usually get really hot? if so you might have burned something on the board.

so do you hae any other PC's there? plug them in straight to the router and see if the same thing happens. if so its obviously either teh router or your Cox/Verizon or whateerver connection.

no i have fiber at my place it cost 37$ a month but the problem is our pud was suppose to have the whole county on fiber with there budet and they fucked up so sence a couple months ago they started charging me for every gig that i go over. im only suppose to use 40 gigs a month last month i paid 220$ extra 1$ a gig. over the phone they said they charged 3$ a gig so i think there slowly going into this because ive had it sence last nov. and this month was a extra 330$ so i took them off automatic pay and im not paying for that bull crap. so this month back to dsl or maybe cable if i can get it.
