so I hate traffic and i've been thinking.. i live in CO where it is illegal to lane share but i happen to do it sometimes if traffic sucks and im in a hurry.. anybody know what kind of a ticket id get for that if i start doing it 3x a week during rush hour? trying to figure out if itd be worth the insurance in winter.. oh ps dont want to hear about snow, it snows like twice a month here in the winter and is gone the next day

Clarify what you mean. There is no way I'd ride between a group of cars going 25mph at 50mph. If the cars are basically moving at 10mph or less, then I would think about riding between lanes. Overall I'm a very cautious rider and realize if I get hit by a car, I'm in the hospital. I'm pretty selective about what I choose to do on my bike.

i think the laws vary from state to state i see alot of vid of guys doing in cali but most of the time traffic is almost at a standstill or going vary slow....you wouldnt catch me doing it but what ever floats your boat,,,,

I've always called that "splitting traffic" or "splitting lanes" It's a helluva alot scarier when one lane is traveling in the oposite direction as you. I think here is was considered reckless operation which is a 6 point violation. It would probably depend on the cop writting the sitation though. But, if you willing to split lanes because traffic is bad, then you shouldn't worry about stopping for a cop to site you anyway because are you really going to stop?? It's really not worth the risk in either situation, even though I have done it in the past.

Lane sharing is when you ride next to another bike and illegal in most states. It is usually recommended that you ride in a staggared formation (____ when there is two or more bikes in the same lane. As for lane splitting, ---- that ----. You are putting yourself in close proximity to vehicle as you pass. One concern I always hear is people opening doors while you pass, but I am more concerned with dumb assholes throwing ---- out of their windows. I have been hit with everything from food/trash to cigerettes and even big ------- rocks. :7

I reserve my lane splitting for the long standstills.....I prefer to take the sidewalks though :P . I do like to weave traffic alot though, saves a lot of time. Illegal here (ky)......yes. Solution.......DON'T STOP! FTP!

Edit: I'm wrong. Both sharing and splitting are illegal. Interesting, because I've always been told "filtering" through stopped traffic to get up to the front of traffic at a light is ok. According to the law however it appears iffy:
§ 46.2-857 A person shall be guilty of reckless driving who drives any motor vehicle, including any motorcycle, so as to be abreast of another vehicle in a lane designed for one vehicle, or drives any motor vehicle, including any motorcycle, so as to travel abreast of any other vehicle traveling in a lane designed for one vehicle. However, this section shall not apply to any validly authorized parade, motorcade, or motorcycle escort, nor shall it apply to a motor vehicle traveling in the same lane of traffic as a bicycle, electric personal assistive mobility device, electric power-assisted bicycle, or moped This can be interpreted as only applying to filtering through moving vehicles.. or on the other hand vehicles at a red light could technically still be "driving" in their lane, in which case it is illegal. It seems unclear to me how it would apply to filtering through stopped vehicles. |

Have you ever run from the cops in a stock DX Civic? That ---- is fun. Out in the country around Harrisonburg I was making a permit delivery for my dad and the cop was coming towards me... I'm going 9mph over the limit and I'm in front and I see him slam on his brakes and pull into a turn around. So I go balls to the wall on some back roads and ditch him. Fun ---- mang. If I ever got a bike I'd be trouble for myself or someone else.. which is precisely why I've refrained from purchasing one.

here in az we call it lane splitting which is illegal. i havent got caught yet but i do it frequently in 45mph roads and not so much on the freeway.. but i think it pisses the people off haha

I only "ran" from a cop once ever. The cock sucker was hiding at the bottom of a valley, so everyone speeds a lil going down to get up the other side easier. Well I was going about 15 over and saw him way to late to slow down, so i just kept the same speed hoping the bastard was asleep or something. Just as i came to the top of the hill i saw his tailights turn on and his car pull out. I was pretty familiar with the area and there was a house just up on the left w a barn and a driveway that ran next to it. I turned off my lights and e-braked into the driveway, just disappeared behind the side of the house as the cop came over the top of the hill. ------- close, and would def not do it again, unless my car was way faster and had better suspension and tires ;)

As far as I know, "lane sharing" is legal here in wisconsin. At least I have never seen or heard of anyone getting ticketed for it. Splitting traffic is big ------- no no. I've had cigarettes fly up under my helmet and burn me in the face. Running from the police is bad news too. 18 years old I thought my CBR 900rr was the fastest thing on wheels. Rookie female officer thought she could hang and crashed her car. I got away, so I thought. They didn't need a plate number. Turns out that I was one of 16 registered owners of a sport bike in my county, one of 3 that are black and red. One was broke down and the other guy is from Illinois and only vacations here. Through the process of elimination, FUCKED. Fleeing an officer, battery to an officer, criminal damage to state property, speeding, and a bunch of other ----. I didn't have a drivers licence till I was 24. Thank god though, I think my lawyer was ------- the judge. All reduced to failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. Had to pay something like 16,000 in restitution and a million and a half hours of community service. Not really that many but it felt like it. Dont ---- around. Just pull over.

if you can't obey the laws of the road on your bike, you deserve what's going to happen to you. sharing a lane is no big deal, did it all the time while riding. driving in between so you don't have to wait for traffic, ------- stupid.

This is one reason why i hate most folks on bikes. they have a complete disregard for anything else on the road. its a ------- 3500 pound ------- weapon you are skating around and zipping between. but we need to watch out for you, and when we splatter one of you all over the road when you are skating between cars cause you think you are entiltled to cause you are on a bike we will hear all about this memorials and Public service annoucements to be more aware of bikers. ---- that. Natural selcetion at its finest. if you are stupid enough to roll down 64 in a B-ball jersey doing a wheelie then you deserve to get splattered all over the pavement. same goes for zipping in between cars on the interstate.

I do it if traffic is going extremely slow or at a stand still, if traffic is going 40+ its just kinda scary. And atleastt if they hit you while traffic is going 10-20mph a person might have enough time to not run you over, whereas at 40 your ass is getting ran over.

Yeah that don't mean ----. they need to prove it was you but sometimes that easier said than done. my boy got off with like 3 allegations of it cause they KNEW it was him but they only got partial plates each time. wasn't long for the eventually got him for something else though.

If traffic is heavy and I’m only a few cars back from the front, I’ll make my way to the front cause 75% of people don't watch for bikes. I'd rather be out in front of traffic, than having to dodge asshats that can't drive....Especially the dumb cunts putting on their make-up while, talking on the phone and swatting at 3 kids in the back off a suburban assault vehicle. I can guarantee though if some ------- opens his door up on me in standstill traffic, he'll have one pissed off biker swinging a helmet at him. I can't stand ignorant cock-bags that think tail gating, throw debris, and generally having 0 regard for the well being of the individual on a bike is acceptable. I carry a pocket full of ball bearings just for such people. There is nothing like chucking a hand full of those over your shoulder at 60mph to ruin a tailgater’s day. I park my bike on the side walk because it's a lot better when you're alone than having one of the aforementioned retards pull into your bike at full speed because they couldn't see it due to vehicles being parked on either side of it. I ride staggered fashion witho ther bikers and always keep myself an opening when forced into traffic. Keeping yourself alive on a bike greatly depends on your options during a crisis. I'd really perfer not to get smashed between a car merging on me and a guard-rail because I didn't leave myself an out. Gotta ride smart boys. |

riding smart has nothing to do with driving in between lanes because you don't want to wait in traffic. i'll open my door, swing a helmet at me and get a gun in your ------- face. i've never once decided that i owned the road because i'm on a motocycle, and think that i can disobey traffic laws. its like driving your car on the shoulder because your too impatient to wait like everyone else.
parking on the sidewalk is not a big deal. its like parking two bicycles next to each other. you definitely have to protect yourself and leave a way out of a bad situation at all times, i've found that when i obey all the traffic laws, i dont have a problem doing this. |

one big problem with teh whole comparison about bikes and motorcycles. ones huge and the other you can pick up one handed. a bike on a sidewalk you walk around. a Honda CBR ont he sidewalk takes up the sidewalk. Sidewalks are for pedestrians. not vehicles.
If your kid leaves his toys out and you step on it. is it your fault for not watching or do you tell your kids to clean up after themselfs and pick up their toys? If you do not want your Bike stepped on, played with, pushed over, or fucked with then dont put it where pedestrians are supposed to walk, cause it doesnt belong there. Last week i was chillin at a stop light and some ---- head rolls up beside me chillin like 6 inches away from my car. light turned green as im yellin out the windows "what the ---- are you doing" and he pulls off. thats just being a ------ prick. |

tell me riding on the shoulder is a bad idea when youre sitting in dead stopped trafffic on the highway, on the middle of a 95 degree day with the sun glaring right down on you? you go ahead and open your door, your gonna get a nice boot print on you quarter panel, your face, and a nice attempted vehicular assault charge. you can pull out a gun if you want, but i hope you dont plan on using i unless you want to go to jail for manslaughter, because its sure as ---- not self defense.
i dont ride shoulder unless traffic isnt moving. if its moving steady enough where i dont need to put my feet down every 10 feet then i wait for traffic. if some other idiot wants to split cars and ---- you have zero right to do anything to harm them. it doesnt effect you if they are getting up further in traffic, if they wanna take the chance of getting hit by the dumb bitch on her phone then thats thier choice. |

Hell no I didn't confess. They had me. It took about a month before they charged me. The fuckers had eye witnesses and timelines and photos. If they want you bad enough, they'll get you. I was young and sure as hell didn't want to spend 10 years in prison so I took the deal. With the injury the officer ended up with and the damage to the cruizer I am lucky I got a deal at all.
