worst advise ever.....250s are for chicks....invest in a cbr f2, f3 or f4...they are cheap, they are a 600cc, and if you dump them it wont matter cause they are cheap. the f2s go for $1500-$3500 around here depending on the condition of the bike and you can usually find the f3s and f4s for around $3500 too. Here is the best advise i was told by a couple guys that i use to ride with a few years back "if you want to start on a litre bike you can, but just remember to ride with in your limits and you wont find yourself in over your head." also "ride like everyone is out to kill you"

personally i like the 600s over the bigger bikes, they are fun and to me seem more nimble

Some people really do need 250cc bikes to learn on, and not just girls.

2nd gen VFR's are always a good choice, first bike or not!

I was pretty freaked out when I started riding and my 650cc was a bit much to handle. I'm not a big guy and could have easily gotten away with a 250. But after a month of riding, I got used to everything and I don't regret getting a 650, but for the first month I kept thinking to myself I should have gotten the Ninja 250. In a perfect world, I'd suggest buying a Ninja 250 for the first month or two, sell it, and then buy something in the 600cc world.

i agree the 650's are great starter bikes
i personally started on an sv650 and loved it, i have never ridden a ninja 650 but from what i understand they are more comfortable and only a couple hp shy of the sv
but they are almost half a second slower than the sv through the 1/4 and don't sound nearly as good but an f4i would also do well as long as you are responsible

the guy that says $1500-3500 for an f2 is reasonable is a ------- fag bag anything more than $750 and you are paying to much for and f2 any more than $1200 for an f3 and you are paying to much $1500 for an f4 is decent and $2k is about average for a good f4i

just don't listen to people that tell you to buy a 600 or 1000cc supersport because you will look like the guy in the pic above '
think of it just like when you started driving, was your first car a 600whp ek hatch that ran mid 10's in the 1/4?
no it was probubly an anemic 80-150hp handmedown from your partnts/sibling or a cheap car that was bought for you
even if it was an ek hatch i garentee that it was a little while before it had 600hp

the supersports are no built for the streets they are yuppie bikes
oh and annother bike i have yet to ride but hear good things about is the gsx650f it has about 4-5hp more than the sv650 but weights a bit more so performance is about the same 0-60 in about 4.1 seconds and the 1/4 in about 11.5's at arround 108mph it is good enought for a first bike but with equilt performance and a cheaper price tag i say take the sv
i payed $5k out the door in 03 for my 04 sv650 (standard no fairing)

i ------- love my 87 ninja 750. enough power for now and with the mods it has it keeps up with new 600's. (regetted with mercury syncronizer, modded airbox, refilled nitrogen shock, vance and hines pipe, etc. i start my motocycle safety class tomarow.

Man, I want a bike so bad, but what you guys say about cheap bikes just is not true around here (Houston, TX). Rough 500-750cc bikes from the 80's still go for $1500+ here. I just want a cheap cruiser that's at least 500cc, but I cannot ------- find one that's less than a grand. I don't care if it's rough or doesn't run right, I can deal with a fixer upper, but ----, someone point me in the right direction here?
