Motorcycle
I've decided to get a bike, and will be going to take the MSF course pretty soon. Anyone have any experiences with it? It cost like 280$ since I'm military and MD isn't my home state. It says on the website that there are no guarantees that you will pass, kinda shitty for 280$ they won't let you go back for free if you suck. I rode a long time ago, so hopefully that won't happen to me. I have been looking at the 250 ninjas for a first bike, they are pretty cheap. This should be pretty fun once it warms up if everything works out.

Re: Motorcycle
Just go to the DMV get your permit ride around for the 3months then sign up for the ride test. Only cost me $40 to get my licence. Buy a non sport bike for ur first bike but id get something bigger then a 250

Re: Motorcycle
I took the class awhile ago, went into it with no experience on a bike and passed the road test with flying colors. The test is alittle more involved than the normal road test but the teacher goes over it again and again with you. I would deffantly reconment the class you wont learn all the stuff they teach you on the street, also cant beat the 10% off insurance. Plus the teacher had private lessons for the people who couldnt pass but believe me you will pass, unless you really shouldnt be riding on the road yet. and I agree with 88dx you may want somthing with alittle more ass than a 250 unless your really small.

Re: Motorcycle
i start my class in april. already have my temps and have bee riding for years on dirtbikes. my first bike is an 87 ninja 750. old but its fun to drive and if i drop it i dont care.
|
Re: Motorcycle
trust me I made the mistake of buying a ninja 250 2005 model. Within 2 months I was bored as hell and wanted to get a bigger bike. I wouldn't go no less than 600cc for a first bike. You seem to have experience so just be careful and enjoy.

also i think the ninja 250 is more fun than you think (that is what i rode on 2 of the 3 days at the course the other day was a korian knockoff mini harley that was ------ huge for a 250, i think it was called a vento v-thunder or somthing) $280 is ------- rediculas |
Re: Motorcycle
---- a licensce or temps. If don't ride like an ass you should blend in with traffic and the not give the 5-0 a reason to pull you over.

Re: Motorcycle
don't buy a goddamn 250 lol
|
Re: Motorcycle
if you get a 250, get the brand new one. from like 90 to 07 is all the same bike
|

you can get a nice 92-95 500 (same bike but bout 60hp instead of 32, and allot more ridable) for arround $300-1500 in awsome condition |
Re: Motorcycle
step up from a 250. my first was a 750 and was perfect. i rode 250s after that and it was utterly pathetic. have fun keeping up with traffic

Re: Motorcycle
Thx for the advice guys, I am a noob rider for all intents and purposes, I went and picked up a ninja 250 yesterday for 1k. It's a 97 /w 15k but it had brand new tires/clutch. The lady i bought it from rode it for 2 months and was upgrading. I will sell it when I feel like I have out grown it, I figure maybe 5-6months it should still be worth about the same as long as I don't wreck. I also got some gear yesterday, HJC helmet and some gloves. I was looking at the jackets but they(cycle store) want alot for thoes things, I was thinking maybe craigslist or something for the jacket/pants.

So after everyone told you to get something bigger. What do you go and do...you go and spend a grand on a damn 250. Probably end up pulling some dumb ---- like this riding gay biker style.
Attachment 19002 then..... http://www.bagofnothing.com/bike3.jpg .....------- 250. |
Re: Motorcycle
Wtf? Stillnotturbo are you a ------- retard? Aren't you the same dumb ---- that said to ride without a licence? Then you tell me I will kill my self because I bought a SMALLER motorcycle? You are a dumb bitch.
|
Re: Motorcycle
to me a smaller underpowered bike is ------- dangerous, my 500 was kinda slow when having to go up an onramp and merge at 65mph, granted i am a fatass, it is a lot less scary when i am about to hit 65 or more when i get up to the highway on my 750

and like people said they get boring quick but are allot more fun than they should be |
Re: Motorcycle
Depends on WHICH MSF course you take. Basic, you'll be ok. Advanced Course will pown you. I failed the first advanced course because my bike (not me) didn't stop fast enough for one of the tests. Second time someone dropped their bike (on the test should have been auto fail) and they let him squeak by because he did about a grand worth of damage to his bike and the instructor felt bad. About what to get, get wtf you want to. Depending on your size never smaller than a 600cc(4 cyl) or an 1100 (v twin) or you will be disappointed. Those jackets might be expensive but they beat grafting skin off your ass.

Re: Motorcycle
Yeah if you want a drag bike. But what if you want a sporty v-twin with fun low end torque for cruising?
The sound is incredible: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4CkM-Zzznc |

Here is the best advise i was told by a couple guys that i use to ride with a few years back "if you want to start on a litre bike you can, but just remember to ride with in your limits and you wont find yourself in over your head." also "ride like everyone is out to kill you"

Re: Motorcycle
I was pretty freaked out when I started riding and my 650cc was a bit much to handle. I'm not a big guy and could have easily gotten away with a 250. But after a month of riding, I got used to everything and I don't regret getting a 650, but for the first month I kept thinking to myself I should have gotten the Ninja 250. In a perfect world, I'd suggest buying a Ninja 250 for the first month or two, sell it, and then buy something in the 600cc world.

i personally started on an sv650 and loved it, i have never ridden a ninja 650 but from what i understand they are more comfortable and only a couple hp shy of the sv but they are almost half a second slower than the sv through the 1/4 and don't sound nearly as good but an f4i would also do well as long as you are responsible the guy that says $1500-3500 for an f2 is reasonable is a ------- fag bag anything more than $750 and you are paying to much for and f2 any more than $1200 for an f3 and you are paying to much $1500 for an f4 is decent and $2k is about average for a good f4i just don't listen to people that tell you to buy a 600 or 1000cc supersport because you will look like the guy in the pic above ' think of it just like when you started driving, was your first car a 600whp ek hatch that ran mid 10's in the 1/4? no it was probubly an anemic 80-150hp handmedown from your partnts/sibling or a cheap car that was bought for you even if it was an ek hatch i garentee that it was a little while before it had 600hp the supersports are no built for the streets they are yuppie bikes oh and annother bike i have yet to ride but hear good things about is the gsx650f it has about 4-5hp more than the sv650 but weights a bit more so performance is about the same 0-60 in about 4.1 seconds and the 1/4 in about 11.5's at arround 108mph it is good enought for a first bike but with equilt performance and a cheaper price tag i say take the sv i payed $5k out the door in 03 for my 04 sv650 (standard no fairing) |

Re: Motorcycle
Man, I want a bike so bad, but what you guys say about cheap bikes just is not true around here (Houston, TX). Rough 500-750cc bikes from the 80's still go for $1500+ here. I just want a cheap cruiser that's at least 500cc, but I cannot ------- find one that's less than a grand. I don't care if it's rough or doesn't run right, I can deal with a fixer upper, but ----, someone point me in the right direction here?

Re: Motorcycle
If you're learning the basics and want to be a bitch learn on a ------- 50cc scooter or 50cc full size. At least then you won't have to go through the hassle of titling and insuring just to turn around and sell the bitch in a month.

Re: Motorcycle
I have been riding this thing for a few weeks now. I don't regret buying it, but it does feel slow, and a little to small for me. It's also takes alot of reving to get it moving, I think it dosen't make max power until 10k . On the plus side it's a light bike, I would have dropped it a few times by now if it weren't for that. I would recommend these to anyone who wants to learn, as they are 1) cheap 2)slow+light 3) low insurance rate. They are easy to sell also, as there are always new people wanting a beginners bike.
