Real gross domestic product — the output of goods and services produced by labor and property located in the United States — increased at an annual rate of 3.3 percent in the second quarter of 2008, (that is, from the first quarter to the second quarter), according to preliminary estimates released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. In the first quarter, real GDP increased 0.9 percent.
What will obama say? we're in a recession? will morons around the country believe him? just curious...

This is the reason why I don't like either candidate, because one is a socialist, and the other isn't a true conservative. However from what I've read about Palin she seems to be more of a run of the mill conservative than McCain, which actually gives me a good reason to vote for him.

I'm all for a smaller government that is MUCH more conservative in spending our tax dollars. However, I'm not sure either one of these candidates can give us that - but I do believe McCain will get us closer to that than Obama will. Plus I live in the state that Obama is Senator for, and let me tell you this state is upside ------- down.

Every politician we have is absolutely worthless, including Obama. I don't follow the news closely enough to tell you exactly what he's done but I can tell you he endorsed a governor or some other figurehead that got busted for some corrupt conflict of interest ----, as well as helped pass or endorsed some bill or something that was supposed to help our gas prices that seriously fucked us. On top of this we have some of the most retarded gun laws around. I hate this state, and I feel that if Obama gets elected, the entire country may turn out like this state.

On topic, at least Palin has a good track record and is well liked from her state.

I read his tax plan and thats his intention, obviously I don't have a crystal ball shoved up my ass and can't see into the future to see how he would really behave as President.

Like I said earlier, I hope Mr McCain gets elected because he has already said that he knows jack ---- about the economy and many other things, so when he fucks it up worse than it already is it won't come as much of a suprise to me but hopefully more people will take a more active role in the next election.

I mean look at this thread, out of all the people that have made a comment, how many actually know what they are talking about and how many are going to vote based on ---- that they heard, or saw on tv? Out of all the people that campaigned for the presidency these two are FAR from the best options for america, but its too late now so we all have to pick a side :)

most don't know what they are talking about including you.

the economy grew at 3.3% last quarter. does that sound like a horrible economy? where is the recession? just curious...

Re: McCains vice president

The GDP went up 3.3%, big wow, so if we are doing so well why do we have to borrow so much money from other countries?

The Gross Domestic Product is calculated by either adding up all expenditures on goods and services or adding up income recieved (its usually the first one) but this also includes defense spending and the largest percentage is consumer spending so you also have to take inflation into account, you spend more because ---- costs more. doesn't mean everything is hunky dory.

but yea a recession is technically back to back quarters of 0 or negative growth, so no, we are not in a recession.

GDP might have gone up according to your estimates, I mean stats...but how much has inflation grown during that same period?

Do you think economist are dumb enough to not account for inflation?

nominal gdp/gdp deflator x 100 = real gdp
