I'm going to get raped

Re:I'm going to get raped
engineering is a great field if you can get into it. Brother's friend straight out of college got a job for boeing making 60k a year, of course it goes up from there. The only problem with engineering is that it is a hard and competitive field to be in. I mean if you are really good at it and have a passion or interest in it, I say go for it. No one can make you become somebody, you have to have the drive within yourself to acomplish anything, whether it's getting up to take a **** or getting a pHD.
What is it that truly interests you? Engineering is a cool major, cause you could do all sorts of designing. We already know that you like to make things hence your twin turbo d series. Hell I'm sure an engineering degree is more versitial than a dergee from an automotive school.

I'm good at the engineering classes, I aced thermodynamics, strength and materials, fluid flow ect but these bullshit math classes are ------- me. Its not the degree but what you do with it.
My brother got out of school with an electrical engineering degree and started out at $50,000. However my friend just finished automotive tech school and is starting out at $50,000 also. Its all dependent on who you know.
From Penn State, about 60% of the kids who graduate with a degree in Engineering go onto Penn Tech becuase they have a degree with no experience.

Re:I'm going to get raped
that's true. The way I see it is that automotive degrees will be worthless unless you are a designer. Why because with cars that are now requiring oil changes every 20k miles, maintance is going to be a thing of the past.
With engineering, you are not limited to just working on cars, you could design the car, or the plane, or the boat, or the in the air train that they are planning on utilizing thoughout the nation (at least there are only interests in certain areas).
SO if you are good in engineering I say stick to it, if it doesn't float your boat, get a minor in something else. I say try to get as much education as you can, you will need it with the amount of people in the world. It's just like real estate, you can't get enough

Mechanic's are never going to be obsolete. Technology changes and people are needed to maintain that technology.

Re:I'm going to get raped
never obsolete, but will not be as in demand. There won't be a need for so many mechanics because the intervals of maintanance is going to be far ------ apart. I believe mercedes has transmission that do not require to have the fluid flushed (and if it does I think it's at 100k miles). Of course there's going to be a smaller staff, why pay 3 people to do the job of one.
It's just like at the post office, they have automated machines to wiegh your package and take your money and give you a postage sticker. A machine is taking the job of the window clerks. I say get a job where you won't be replaced by a machine.
Just like the assembly of cars, who would have thought that machines will take it over. Hell you could even buy a cup of coffee, brewed by a machine and the machine can even put it in a cup for you. Soon starbucks will be a machine.
