I basically don't know what to do right now. I don't know if I can put up with another 2 years of this bullshit. I'll have a degree with no experience and a ton of debt.

Being sucessful is all about who you know. If I get the engineering degree doesn't guarantee that I'll be doing what I want to do in life. I don't want to end up like the movie Office Space (Who were all engineers)

i totally understand where you are coming from. I have no idea what I want to do with my life either, but I am still pursuing a degree in biological sciences. It's not going to guarentee me a successful job, like you said, but I will be able to do many things with it. Medical, ecology, all sorts of bullshit, the same degree will be able to work for me more than another. It's like having a susan b anthony dollar coin instead of a silver dollar. The Susan B will fit in more places the silver dollar can.

I don't want to end up in a cubicle either, so I could understand that, but then again it might be something to consider. Why don't you get something with building robots 'n ----? You could still design them but you could also create them?

I will not contribute to the end of humanity Engines have been the only thing that has interested me in life. I've been wrenching since I was 12 so I really wanted to get a job like that. Most people say you can't make any money doing ---- like that so I guess thats why I'm here trying to be an engineer. School is simply a pipe dream.

There's plenty of money out there to be made and a degree doesn't guarantee ----. You truely got to do what you love in life and the money will eventually follow.

I agree that you shouldn't end mankind and that a degree doesn't guarentee anything, but with one you are one step higher than someone with nothing.

And since you have a passion for engines, why don't you go into designing more economical engines. I mean these hybrid motors are great, 80 mpg is a good thing, but imagine if you could create an engine that'll do 150 mpg or even 200 and have it feasible for automobiles (so onyx's post a while ago about that 13k mpg engine doesn't apply :P).

Since you are into engines, don't get yourself stuck into obsolete engines (what we have in the present), you gotta work on the engines of the future.

The piston engine isn't going anywhere for a long time. Its going to be at least 30 years before the hydrogen fuel cell or any other powerplant takes over.

i was refering more to the modification of today's engine, like if you were to have a performance shop, prehaps I should have been more clear.

And true that the piston engine isn't going away anytime soon, so with that said it can be improveda great deal. SUV getting 6 miles a gallon isn't cutting it. So basically since you have a passion for engines, go into making an engine that'll have amazing gas mileage without sacrificing power. With something like that, you will not only be doing something you love but you could make major bank.

Well good luck man, I really need to get cracking on my chemistry. I've been on hmt for 4 hours now, shoving it aside.

I know exactly how you feel, I'm in the same situation except about a year ahead. When I was in e. engineering, I had no idea what direction it was heading. But after 2 years I was tired of it so I quit USC and am now going to start automotive classes at a tech school. I keep wondering if I made a good decesion or not, it's just that I see lots of people with degree's in engineering that are working shitty jobs that someone with no degree could get. I know this one guy who's got a degree in engineering and he installs satalite dishes.
