I'm in Ontario, Canada and I work in the robotics/welding industry. I do troubleshooting, maintenance, and integration of automated welding equipment.
Oh and my suggestion to the original poster is do your project, I'd go with a big turbo vw tdi because they can be fast and still get 60+ mpg. I'd spend the rest on investments and a house.
