im planning to get a gsxr600 as my first bike. i was going to get a ninja 250 but i dont want to be bored of it in a few weeks and lose alot of money.

2500 or less = cbr600 F3

mine was a 95 and kept up with any modern 600 and it had 50k on it which is very high for a sportbike

SV650 hands down :y Great bike, and you won't grow tired of it as easily. The 1st gens can be picked up for cheap. Also, it is one of the bikes you will really miss once you upgrade to a 600 etc. I wish I still had mine.

I have rode/raced dirt bikes since I was about 5. I have always wanted a crotch rocket but I know better. I'm not smart enough to ride it any kind of common sence and boost is right other drivers are :1. My sisters old long term boyfriend had a toyota truck pull out in front of him at a y in the road and he hit it at the door and took the front diff right out of the truck, seing him everyday also helped my decision.

I had a f2 and it kept up fine....the f2s and f3s are the same price as a used 250 ninja, get one of those and you'll be more happy...don't buy a 250 cause people say you should start out on it, buy a bike you want and ride with in your limits and you'll be fine

The problem is I don't really know what I want because I've never ridden before. The Ninja 250 is a cheap investment and doesn't depreciate much in value. If I drop it and the body is ---- after I learn to ride, well at least its only on a $1000 bike vs a $3000 bike. If I want another bike, I can still keep the Ninja to commute and have another bike.

The Milk Man: Thanks for the SV 650 suggestion. I was looking up info on that sucker and it seems like a really solid choice. Really fat torque band with a moderately high rev limit. I'll keep my eye out for a cheap one.

the sv650 isn't a bad bike to start out on...its better then a 250 ninja....i've never rode a bike before untill i got my f2....you can find them for cheap, like under $2000...wont look as nice but its a better bike to learn on...this is the f2 i learned on:

i traded a car for it and i was only into the car $1200....bike was worth $2500...i ended up gettin rid of it for a banshee. but if you get one of these its going to be a lot more fun then a ninja 250...i learned a lot on this bike and never downed it...i loved my f2 and will deffinatly get another, but not untill i get a gsx-r 750 >:D

whatever bike you end up getting there is one thing that was told to me that is good advice....ride like everyone is out to kill you...in other words be very alert

250s are lame. do not buy it.

riding everyday isnt that bad, you just have to keep an eye out. ive commuted my 600 for two weeks about now and had two people turn into me.

honda now has a 125cr that is about 2 grand cheaper then the 250 good starter bike if u dont want something crazy max speed is 120 km
