Default How much would I hate a Ninja 250? **** LINK SFW **Update: Bought a Bike**

I want a first bike. I want it to be cheap. Ninja seems like the safest bet.

I know this topic has been covered. I've done a good deal of searching. I either see one group of people saying the Ninja 250 is the best beginners bike out because of its cost and features. On the other hand I see a lot of people saying that one should just go straight to the 500-600cc bikes as the 250 will be boring in a couple of weeks.

Throw out any suggestions of bikes I can pick up for around $2500 or less. I'd prefer suggestions of bikes that aren't older than 10 years old. I really don't have a strong reasoning behind this other than aesthetics.

Update:

I bought a 2000 SV650 a couple of days ago. I made out just okay on the deal, but I was having a really hard time finding any bikes for sale in the area so I jumped on this bike. It has 15,xxx miles. Got it for $2900 with a helmet, gloves, and battery charger thing. I haven't really gotten to ride it because I don't really know how and the helmet I got with the bike doesn't fit me but my dad. Oh well. Helmet will be coming in the mail early this week and I will be taking lessons/getting a license early next week. Here are pics.

just don't expect it to be anything more than a moped. I don't see how riding a 250 will make you a better rider, unless you have some severely fucked up hand eye coordination.

We aren't in the same world Dmc1. I want to commute and have a little fun. I have no interest in tricks nor do I have any intentions in traveling 130-140mph with a group of bikes. This bike would be used to get me where I want to go. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy going quickly on curvy roads and such, and plan on doing so. I'm commuting to school next year so a bike will be very easy to park and cheap to ride if gas gets up to $5.00 like some predict. Plus they are look like a bit more fun to ride around.

Also Rawr, I'm going out on a limb saying a Ninja 250 is a lot more powerful than a moped. Average moped's top speed is 50mph I believe. Ninja 250 tops out around 110 and can cruise at 80 relatively easily as per all the reviews I've read. It just requires traveling at around 9000rpm.

I was speaking figuratively. You don't have to pull out statistics to prove that 250's are faster than 50cc 2 stroke mopeds.

I'm scared to ride a bike on the streets daily. I see too many ------- idiots on the road and way too many dumbfucks who mistake a stopLIGHT for a stopSIGN.

My biggest fear is obviously getting into an accident. I clearly don't want to get into one. Luckily for me my current job is only 10 minutes away and is all "country" roads. Still a risk for getting in trouble, but I think it will be a good group of roads to learn how to ride on. I'll move to highways when I feel comfortable and if I don't like riding, I'll sell the bike and forget about it. Thats kind of why I wanted to go with the 250 Ninja. Really low investment but still offers things like a great ride and water cooled engine. It offers a lot of things the other "lower cost" bikes simply don't offer.

i do that on purpose, BUT thats because i live in a small town and some of the lights dont work properly so running them can save me a lot of time, and keeps me sane, when theres NO one even in site. i usually do most of my driving at night. so if you can imagine a small town on a backroad where theres no one in site and having to wait for a light that takes its ------- time. never been in a accident with another car/bike, just one accident by myself when i was obvislously going three times the speed limit and wasnt thinking. was about 3 years ago. i run a lot of stopsigns and lights : ), i also sleep while i drive, and set the cruise for 110
