oil is oil.

gasoline is made from oil :)

speculation is a problem too. but most of it is supply and demand. no one seems to want to talk about oil prices now that prices are low, corresponding with demand

Oil is oil but gasoline is gasoline, diesel is diesel and kerosene is kerosene. If there was a high demand for kerosene and diesel then there would be a surplus of gasoline according to your theory unless a majority of the gasoline was being cracked to make kerosene, but that's not the case. Heavier oils that can be used in diesel are more often than not cracked to be used as gasoline. Kerosene and lighter hydrocarbons aren't usually cracked because so much of the oil is wasted when methane and other gaseous hydrocarbons are produced. So, where's the proof that moving goods is the majority of the demand for fuel?

I think speculation was most of the problem. There were a lot of traders heavily leveraging their investments in oil when they got a taste of the price per barrel starting to rise. A lot of guys who got into the market with dollar signs in their eyes and and retarded creditors backing them up, bid the price up far higher than it was actually worth. I really don't think its from moving goods.

A turbocharged one, of course. I understand N/A Mike, though. I enjoy cruising around sometimes myself, and my son never even as much as whimpers when we're riding around. When gas was up $3.50-$4.00 I did cut down on that ---- a good bit. I might would get out and just ride (I'm talkin' 30-40 miles TOPS) once or twice a week. I could afford to do it a lil more now, but I don't for the most parts. I made adjustments back then, and I've just stuck to it....Being the winter season probaly has alot to do with it as well. And yeah, gas has gone down, but everything else is going up. A gallon of milk cost me like $5 and some change yesterday(that was from a gas station, probaly could've got it cheaper from the grocery store). And yes, Dr. Boost, you're right, the company I work for looks to profit greatly from the production of ethanol. It just seems like a good deal for agricultural industry here in this country, instead of just the rich arabs and oil tycoons in this country profitting from the demand for fuel...

Talk to the owners of gas stations. They will tell you they haven't been selling NEARLY as much as they were a year ago. The local stations in town have nothing to do with commercial traffic. People are driving quite a bit less around here so I assume it would be the same way in most other places.

look into fuel contracts

Southwest Airlines did it right.

Also, look at the way diesel is "cracked" in the USA, we are using the less effeicent way as compared to Europe.
