How low will it go?

Well since no one has posted what is everyone's thoughts on gas pricing finally coming back to its true value after trashing the economy.

i love boost and zc's, but i really hope someone comes out with a feasible alternative, and those rag headed fucks go back to the stone age and drown in their ------- oil.

Idk but I. Just paid $1.62 for a gallon of regular here in North Carolina.

Depending on how the rest of the economy goes.. under a buck.

Re: How low will it go?

it's at $1.52 for reg, here in fargo, nd.

and e-85 is only $1.42 super cheap.

Re: How low will it go?

It's crazy... just a little bit ago I was considering building a still and producing my own sugar alcohol at $42 per 100lb bag. Each 100lb bag makes approximately 10gal of usable alcohol/water mix, so that's $4.20 per gallon. I think that's really why gas will never get above that number in the US as long as sugar remains constant (as it has over the past 80 years). Now this ---- happens and it's totally impractical to do that. Just think if you bought sugar by the silo load at $.30 or less per lb.. you would be rolling in ethanol.

$.30 a pound is still $3 per gallon. still not practical especially considering you get less miles to the gallon with ethanol fuel. gas would need to be $6 gallon for that to be worthwhile.

Re: How low will it go?

You get half the fuel mileage out of ethanol? I was just thinking ahead, if it gets really bad like people are expecting or if the ---- here gets like Europe.

Also, consider the other things about ethanol/water as a fuel... high octane, nice cooling, etc. Comparing $4/gal 87 octane to $4/gal ethanol 110 octane isn't really fair. It's something I've been thinking about a lot though.

no not half. but converting a car to run on ethanol? how practical is that. incase you havent noticed not every car in the world has an OBD1 conversion with a p28 and crome that they can just load up an ethanol based map for. how many companys/model cars actually have the ability to run on ethanol fuels? not many i bet. ethanol is not the answer.

i want a car that runs on urine.

TorganFM 11-30-2008 12:56 AM

Re: How low will it go?

If gas gets out of hand, for my car ethanol will be the answer. I was talking about making my own ethanol for my own use.

Re: How low will it go?

Costs me less than $30 to fill up now and it's under $100 to fill up the work truck(for the first time in a long time). I'm guessing it will get down to around $1.30 or so. I don't see it dipping below the $1 mark. It just can't.....can it? :S

Lowest prices here are $1.95 for regular. E85 is actually a bit higher than that for some reason. ??? They finally put 110 octane tags on the E85 out here. I wonder how that ---- would work in my dirtbike? ???

$1.40 here and falling

Wank.a.lot 11-30-2008 03:40 AM

Re: How low will it go?

it's about $1.75 here. for normal name brand gas.
it's great not spending $40 to fill up a compact car anymore.
wishing i didn't sell my old truck. 12mpg daily driver was killing us though.

MustangC. 11-30-2008 03:47 AM

Re: How low will it go?

1.75ish for reg. like 60 cents a gal higher for 93 which is lame because it use to be only 20 cents. sucks when both your cars combine MPG is less then 30 and both require 93.

not complaining though, if the gas prices stayed right where they are id be happy as can be. i find it funny people stil cry about gas prices when its the cheapest its been in like 4-5 years

Its like $1.87 here and $2.07 for the shell V-power, Which is all I buy.

$17.50 filled her up and I was very pleased.

ethanol is about 33% less efficient than regular octane gasoline. you need to inject about double the amount of ethanol to achieve the same air fuel ratios. for one, you would probably need want to mix it with gasoline. if this is the case, then regular 95% alchy will not be miscible with gasoline since it contains 5% water and will bond with water before gasoline.

what you can do to test this out is buy a hydrometer, and get some Lime (not the fruit) and test to see. if you throw it in the gas from the get go, the alchy will sink to the bottom of the tank.not good. Add some lime to the mix and mix it up and let it sit for a day. you will see it seperate and youll be good to go. mix it with the gasoline, and use the hydrometer to check to see if you have around 85%....

congrats. you now have e85.

the main problem with running alchy is that it cleans everything and loosens everything in your fuel system. from the rubber lines (not really. just replace em and your good ) to the aluminum on your fuel rail ( again, its not noticable, but it does eat it ) and remove and loosen all the gunk and ---- in your tank.

i suggest running your tank low, or removing it, and wash it out with alchy. then change your fuel filter.

after all is said and done, replace your spark plugs for some new ones, and tune for a richer AFR if your running straight Alchy. i believe stoich is 9:1 or something in that ballpark. if its e85, then you can just tune it to be on the rich side of life, and you'll be good.

this is all that ive gathered pretty much. my car is already setup to use alchy. i have a Gm ( i think) alchy sensor hooked into my haltech, and depending on the alchy percentage in the gasoline, it will compensate to add a certain percentage of fuel at a specific level. i just set it to be a rising linear graph and to be unsire about things, i set it to 33% added fuel at 85% alchy level. First i had to go find some e85, and test it out.

works like a charm.

its not the pumpers who decide on the price, its the traders. they trade it around like everything else. its just a good thing the stocks are down as low as they are because it reflects on gas prices.

here in some places gas is cheaper than a gallon of bottled water.

i shal install an enormous fountain in my front yard and fill it with gasoline. will be tons cheaper.

then for 4th of july, i will shoot roman candles at it and behold greatness.

Its weird in wyoming gas for $1.43 to $1.63 per gallon in the Eastern and Central part of the state. But, along the I-80 from Rawlins to Rock Springs gasoline sells for $2.19 to $3.19 a gallon. Wow seriouse raping action to anyone in that area.

Re: How low will it go?

It was at .75$/L here last week. I don't remember the last time it was so cheap. I'm not sure if I had a car when it was at this price lol

Now it's at 0.85$/L. There is gas station at 0.85 and in front another at 0.75, it's pissing me off. I preffer this than 1.50$/L.......

TorganFM 11-30-2008 01:30 PM

1.50/L is the ---- I'm afraid might happen in the US. That or if the ---- really hits the fan and we find ourselves in the Road Warrior.

how is it anyones fault that ethanol fuel isnt practical or efficient? now its unamerican to buy imported fuel, as if theres a ------- option to buy american produced gasoline?

get real dude.

prices should stay where they are for the rest of the year, after that the OPEC countries will start manipulating tha market to try and drive the price back up, problem is noone is using near as much oil as we were previously and oil futures have a low confidence level. Investors know that oil consumption will continue to decline (were in a recession) and are not looking for any significant gains there currently, but meh its like betting on the superbowl, anything can happen between now and then.

With gas prices down, people will probably drive more or drive their gas guzzlers more along with gas guzzler toys which will bring oil consumption back up a bit.

I hope it stays down for good. Everything else is going up up and up. It would be nice to have something that actually went down for once.

Yea thats true but US drivers account for a very small amout of our total consumption, most of it goes to freight/manufacturing, etc. which is down 13% already, China is using 600,000 barrells a day less than they were a few months ago and they (OPEC) can't cut production fast enough to stop the price decline. I also think that the fear of prices going up will keep people from going out and buying gas guzzlers, and the psychological impact of the high prices will stay around for a while. it cost me 14 dollars to fill up my integra this morning though, can't say i feel compelled to drive any more than usual, :P

Most trucks are on used car dealerships after people bailed on them this summer. I think most people got use to not driving for the last year not sure if people will actually start driving like they did years ago unless gas stays low for awhile. Food costs better come down soon atleast by spring.

i've always driven a lot just for fun. friday i drove 100 miles just cruising around town.
yesterday was about 80 miles.
i love to drive and the cost of gas never has stopped me, but it's much more fun now that a tank is under $20.

So if you're driving an average of about 90 miles a day, 7 days a week, and let's say you're getting 20mpg at $4 a gallon, you're spending $126 a week on gas.....just for fun. :l I can't say I'd want to spend an extra $500/month driving around just for fun. What kind of car do you drive that's so fun to cruise around in? ??? I gotta get one. :y
