I have seen it done. for some reason it works for a while. It would work on that hole. Just as a plug. You could do it just to see if it would work. The block was $40. Why not?

if ya get those vitra pistons and get aftermarket rods do u still gotta "notch the block" still havent even found out what that means anyways

Any time you use aftermarket rods that are thicker than stock you should notch the block.
Block notching is just shaving a little bit off each side at the bottom of the cylinders so the larger rods don't come into contact with the edge of the cylinder wall at the bottom. Here is a pic of what it looks like: http://www.theoldone.com/articles/d_...0Block%203.jpg |
