The D is much cheaper and with the forged internals (balanced correctly of course) you should be able to make decent power out of it on higher boost.
As everybody else said a DOHC engine is going to make more power easier just because of how much higher the head will flow. Turbo B16s are prett common around this way and deffinately give everyone a run for the money at the races. There are a few guys with turbo H22s and B18s that pretty much dominate the turbo 4cylinder scene around here.
Cost, time and gain all in consideration... I would go turbo B16 over a D any day.

I also wouldn't have gotten forged pistons without getting them oversized unless you planned on a nice set of sleeves going in or a very low milage block.

Too much. Around here the going rate for a B18 is 275-350 and anoud $250 for a tranny. So yeah your gettin screwed. look around and you'll find something.

Re: Help me decide guys! D16 or LS?

Speaking from experience, I will honestly tell you that unless youre planning to get a B18C1/C5/B16 or some hardcore ---- like that, its not worth it, I have an LS in my car right now and am going back to a D16Z6, there are many reasons for this, the first one being that stock for stock they motors are about the same, the LS may pull a bit better in 1st and 2nd with the YS1 tranny, however both engines are about the same from a roll.

My friend has a Ej1 coupe with an NA stock D16Z6 and we did a few pulls against my EG9(sedan) LS B18A1 with the LS YS1 tranny, and from a standstill I had maybe a car length on him, from a roll we would be pretty much even, both cars weigh about the same and both engins have about 280,000 on them.

Another reason I am going back to a Z6 is the weight of the engine, the LS weighs almost twice as much as a D16 after you include the intermediate shaft, the bigger tranny, axles and the DOHC head it all adds up and weighs alot more, you can definetly feel the difference in the front end after you've done the swap, the cornering gets worse, the front end feels heavy and you get alot of understeer. Now I am not planning on doing alot of autoX, but i'd like to go down to a local road course and try it instead of always going straigh. I plan to buy a nice suspension this year, maybe some Illuminas with Tein springs.

and the last reason I want to go back to the Z6 is simple, the LS swap cost me over 500 dollars after it was all said and done, this may not seem like much to you guys but I did get the engine and tranny cheap, real cheap ( I got the whole swap for $300, including the axles, ECU, harness, tranny etc. etc, it was a deal of a lifetime and will probably never happen again) the rest like mounts and bits and pieces here and there added up in the end.
Most Complete B18 LS swaps go for much much more.

If you ever break anything on a B series its A) hard to find and B) expensive.
With a Z6 you can go to a local bone yard, get a part, put it in your pocket and walk away...ok within boundries, but even if you have to pay for it, it will be cheaper, and you'll be able to find it...I dont see alot of yards with LS engines around here, most of them get checked, pulled and sold or stripped and scrapped.

For the price of an average B18 swap you can have a D16Z6 swap with a good turbo kit. sure you can put the same kit on an LS, but you just doubled what you spent, and if you break something you wont be able to just go to your local junkyard and buy a block, or a head.

Re: Help me decide guys! D16 or LS?

there is only a SOHC Z6...Youre thinking about the ZC which comes in both DOHC and SOHC, the SOHC ZC is pretty much a non Vtec D15B and the DOHC ZC is a D16A6 on crack.
