Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?
I want to do some sort of funky cheap ass swap with this engine so I can do rippers in the parking lot.
I made some parts for another guys cbr kart a while back, it was pretty fun, I might go that way. Or maybe find an old fiat 600 and swap it in :y Or maybe do up a lawn mower :8 Small one seater dune buggy? Whatever chassis I go with it needs to be cheap, ideas and/or experiences welcome. |
Re: Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?
I vote go kart for sweet rippers.
|
Re: Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?

Re: Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?
So far I haven't found any cheap (really cheap) go karts.
I have found some cheap lawnmowers :l http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/grd/745788504.html http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/grd/780727626.html |

Re: Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?
Go kart or bust. Donate it to Jago so he can beef his kart up.
|
Re: Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?
try and find a beat up ass old dune buggy.~couple hundred bucks. Go cart would be cool too but not some cheap ass 5 horse cart, with this motor on it cause it wont hook up, and it wont stop, you would need a decent cart to start with.

Re: Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?

Re: Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?
You have a tube bender, tube notcher, a mill, a lathe, and a band saw.
Build something, nig nog. :1 But two seater dune buggy, or golf cart, or first gen crx (must be turbo then) are all high on the list. |

Re: Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?
Heres the only problem with the go cart, its more money than I want to spend, I could do it, but the whole point of the project is quick and cheap, A good kart (frame, wheels, brakes etc) is gonna be 2k+. If I built the frame, which I could I would have to pretty much go all out, it would be lame to build a sick ass tig welded tube chassis and than clatter it with shitty wheels, brakes, and fittings. So it would still cost at least 2k+
The lawn mower... would be sick, but it wouldn't fit in with the shop, plus I don't think I would want to drift a lawnmower on pavement over 35 miles an hour. The dune buggy is sick, and probably the most sensible, but again, I kind of need this set up for street, I have to be able to drift, we have two big parking lots here, drunken drifting is a requirement. :8 I thought about it last night, I am really liking the fiat 600 idea, or a old mini etc. Those tiny cars would drift great with the cbr engine, especially if I turbo charge it in the future, plus I could drive it around town and get killer fuel economy. Hooker jousting is most probable in a small car, than any of the other options. There this show where they have a bunch of newer euro cars with strret bike engines at disney world: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...43038408467078 Heres a fiat 600, suicide doors FTW http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/pts/781342718.html |
Re: Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?
New Vote:
RWD turbo 600 first gen crx!!! O0 |
Re: Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?
If I was going to do a wacky Fiat swap I'd hold out for an 850. That 600 doesn't look too bad.
The Gixxer mower really appeals to me, but I am a dirty redneck. |

Re: Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?
Pistol, I just emailed the guy with the cart, looks like a good candidate for 80mph drifts.
rwd crx... too heavy, this needs to be light. I would love the fiat 850 but they are hard to find, I want to have something running before the end of august. Austin mini, too expensive around here, can't find anything decent for under 3k I'd like to do this whole project for $1000 or less. I just found a guy about 2 minutes up the street from the shop that has some fiats, renaults, yugos etc. I may have found a suitable candidate yugo for $400, its ugly, but its a tiny little 2 dr that would be good for rippers. Its a bit gay though because its currently front engine, We'd obviously do a rear mount rwd setup. |
Re: Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?
go to holmes depot buy angled metal build this:
http://home.comcast.net/~makeyourown...2004%20031.jpg strap engine. |
Re: Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?
Hahaha, no.
Just because I am doing this cheap does not mean I am doing this super ghetto, I mean it will be a bit ghetto, but not full out. |
Re: Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?
Stripped FIRST GEN CRX is light, at least as light as the fiat on craigslist (though someone with some exact weights can jump in here) It would be at least as light as Sleazy E's bug. With a turbo 600 F4i RWD it would drift at 80mph no problem.

that fiat 600 weighs 1290lbs stock. Wouldn;t bee too hard to drop that down to 1000lbs. |
Re: Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?
fully striped austin mini converted to rwd, google hyabusa (sp) mini and you will be hooked. 600 is a bit small but gears and boost will make everything better.
I'll post up some links later, I wished when I parted my b16a/mini I would have kept the shell and did a hyabusa :8 |
Re: Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?
Austin mini cost too much, you can't find any decent ones for under 5k.
|
Re: Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?
I vote mower/kart. Mowers once you've lowered them, added disc brakes, and hopped them up and ---- are basically karts with hoods and different steering configurations.

Re: Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?
Add 5k to the indians bill... not until he finishes paying what he legitimately owes first :D
I seen that gutted mini already, missing way too many parts, if I am going to swap into a car I need it to be complete enough to register and drive on the street. The more I think about it, the more I want a really clean fiat 600 :l |
Re: Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?
hmt kart. 1"x1" box, ebay wheels, done, $100 O0

Strap it to your shoes. You'd be running circles around everybody.

Re: Have: cbr600 engine, what should I put it in?
buy a blowed-up atv that will get you suspension and brakes. either squeeze the engine in or build a new chassis, swap out the stock shocks for rocket rear shocks and buy a set street tires for the bitch. if you swp over the cbr wiring harness you might be able to get the thing street legal 8)

So I got the trashed bike yesterday, pulled the brakes and engine out. Now all I need is a cheap ass chassis :l
