Garage door opener experts, where you at??

My piece of ---- garage door opener has a mind of it's own and doesn't like to go up or down sometimes. The sensors are hooked up fine and nothing is in the way of them. It will start moving, then like 2 seconds into it, it will stop and go the other direction for a few seconds, then stop again. ??? I can't get this mother fucker to work right. Some days it seems to work fine, but then the next day it's a total piece of ---- and now I have burnout marks in my driveway after it pissed me off today. :7

It's a Genie, series II intellicode. Do they just go bad like this and you have to buy a new one? ???

God damn it, that's what I was thinking. :7 It's gay though because it will do it when the garage is closed and there is no sunlight hitting them. ???

There has to be a way to ypass the sensors. It's only 2 wires and 2 connections going to the unit. Jump them together and see what happens? :l

The pile of ---- doesn't even have a cover. :3 It came with the house. I should have expected it to be broken because I'm made of money and I have an acre of money trees growing in the backyard of this mother fucker. :3 I've spent several thousand dollars at Home Depot and Lowes in the past couple of weeks. Might as well add another $200 for a ------- garage door opener. ::) I'm going to go beat the ---- out of it with a hammer. I'll report back with my results.....

yeah, buying a new one works better than fixing a shitty one.

blow it up, dont use a hammer. make a cool little bomb, put it in there and then film it.

its better for venting anger.

same thing happened to a friend of mine. he just got a new one. he gave me his old one as payment to help him install the new one. i figured i could fix the old one and put it on my mom's old ass garage door.
when i hooked it up it worked great. been fine for about 7 months now.

Re: Garage door opener experts, where you at??

You should be able to disconnect the sensors. A few years ago when we installed a new opener at my uncles house we never installed the sensors but maybe the newer units require it.

If you cant disconnect them then try to make little paper cylinder shields to block the sunlight from the sensors. Its just a little beam...i am assuming infrared.

Re: Garage door opener experts, where you at??

adjust the force settings on the opener. the 2 lil black knobs. unless there is a clutch on the back of the unit. if there is a clutch on the back of it, tighten it up a few turns....

i bet you have a wood door that hasnt been balanced for its whole life. a sectional door will stay up halfway open if you have a sectional door....

i would tell you to adjust the springs but its kinda dangerous if you dont know what you are doing...

just adjust the force settings...

if there is knobs. they should be turned up 3/4 up

if there is a clutch, just tighten it

Re: Garage door opener experts, where you at??

disconnect the power, pull out the sequensor board with a 1/4" nut driver. pop off the covers for the relay, clean them up and re bend if needed....

(its the one with 1 harness on it with hella wires.)

Re: Garage door opener experts, where you at??

If the sensors are mounted to the tracks, and the track is loose or wobbles when you open and close it, it will throw the beam out of wack. make shure everything is tight.

I worry about you, Justin. It's just a silly door, won't hurt anything if you park in the driveway for a month.

Have you ever sat in a vehicle with black leather that has been sitting in the sun for any length of time? :3

The sensors are working fine. When it fucks up and doesn't do what it's supposed to the sensors remain properly working and aren't detecting any breaks in the beam. :-\

I've fucked with those and turned them each way 75 different times and it does the same exact ----. :7

I've left it disconnected for ~45 minutes and when I plug it in, I get the same ----. :-\

I'm going out to ---- with it right now since the sun is down. Maybe that will help. :3

Have you ever lived some place that wasn't a living ------- hell ten months out of the year? You can't even go swimming in your local lake without having your brain eaten, bro. You live in hell, the only worse place I am aware of would have to be FL.

Seeing hot, drunk, naked college women eating each other out on ~$200k boats is worth the brain eating virus. :6

I know how the girls out there like to dance half naked on dirty tree stumps in the middle of the forest and that's really cool because you have no brain eating viruses, but we have the real deal out here. :6

for what its worth...my door was doing the same thing and I had a guy come out and look at it. He put some lube on the screw(not a chain) and the rollers. He also noticed that right at the bottom about a foot from the groung the door would make contact with the molding around the door. A little sanding at it has worked ever sinse. Im sure this will halp you none but thats my story...lol good luck. oh BTY it cost me 69.99 for that. The lube he used was 3 bucks at HDepot...lol

Mine is a screw drive and the whole thing looks like it's pretty well lubed. Even when the door isn't hooked up to the drive it does the same ----.

Last night I went out to ---- with it and it was working perfectly. Up and down, no problem. I guess it just doesn't want to work in the daytime. :7

why dont you shield the sensors from direct sunlight?

el oh el
apparently its as simple as flipping the sensors.. the red sensor should be the one getting the most sunlight..

BTW, the green lighted one is already in the position to get teh most sunlight. They really don't get much sunlight anyways. This morning at about 8:30am the sun wasn't even close to hitting that side of the house yet and the damn thing still didn't work. :3

I took the sensors off the brackets, taped the bitches together(so absolutely NOTHING can break the ------- beam)and wired them up directly to the unit. Sunlight shouldn't have ANY effect on it now. If it fucks up now, it's getting beaten and thrown away because there has to be something wrong with the unit itself. So far so good. :l

I cleaned them to see if that would help and it didn't. :-\ They weren't very dirty anyways. I'm thinking maybe they were going bad or are bad and the beam just wasn't strong enough?? ---- I dunno, it seems to be working now.

If there is a kid in my garage, I could only be so lucky to have the garage door crush the little bastard. :P

They have detectors that will stop the motor if the load gets too big. Either way I don't care. My garage door goes up and down now. :P

just a question but have you tried readjusting the laser sensors? i had the exact same problem with mine. i would have to hold down the button to get it to go down. turns out that someone accidently hit it and moved the sensor some.
