Ever thought about using a positive displacement blower with an underdrive pulley that would allow a gas engine to be throttled without a butterfly valve?

Some diesels are like that.

Why not have that and the throttle mechanism be a CVT?

How would you modulate it in a detonation condition quickly? Direct fuel injection is fast, but you still have residual fuel in the cylinder, enough to cause a lean burn and possible detonation. That leaves you with ignition control only. Big brother doesnt like excess fuel dumped into the exhaust. Wouldnt work nicely for a gas application.

Propane would be an excellent candidate for that concept.
