Finished my boosted 1.4 civic

I have finished the boost procedure last month..
Here is some pictures about my project, from Hungary!
(HMT is really own the world!)

It is a 96' civic 1.4i (75hp) D14A3

Engine management:
OBDI P28 ECU
Some parts from a D16Z6 car:
intake manifold, injectors, distributor, ecu, alternator...
So I can chip/datalog the ecu...

The system:

KKK03 turbocharger (default in audi 1.8T)
2" intake tube
Fiat coupe 2.0 intercooler
Peugeot GTI air filter
240cc injectors
Custom header for turbo
BOV
Gauges: Oil pressure, Boost/vac, AFR (with stock narrow band o2 sensor)

As soon as I can get more money I will put the D15 mainshaft and pistons to the D14 block.
It will get a D16Z6 head too...

The system runs on 5-6 PSI yet.

The car.

This was the first install of the turbo with a std D15 header

With the new header...

There is some Intercooler

Small turbo and the pipes

The Fiat coupe Intercooler fits fine !

1.4 T !!!

When I get dyno-ed the results will coming too... (85WHP + 0,4bar boost)

Good stuff.Looks like a pretty solid setup :y I love seeing the European setups with diff engines.

Man honda must of hated Euro as you got 1.4l. That Sucks. Nice build. Have fun adding more as you go!

Re: Finished my boosted 1.4 civic

first off good job boosting the 1.4, but you need bigger injectors/ a chipped ecu and tuning or the motor is gonna blow up fast, and second, of all the motors you listed, there is not a B22 honda motor, 2.2 liter B series, uhhhh no....

lumpenst 02-18-2006 08:52 PM

Re: Finished my boosted 1.4 civic

there are more 1.4 turbo civic owners in the forum and even one in the Turbo Projects page how come you've never seen one before?

haha good job catching that, cuz i didn't. oh well. that would be nice though.

Thanks!

Thanks, guys!

I know my car is a very veak thing, and it has a small engine but the people on the streets are amazed when they hear the sound of the BOV...

" what? turbo in a civic? " ;D ;D

I will try to set tha target AFR to 12:1, because I dont van to melt the pistons...
My 240cc injectors are not enought? It can supply 125 HP on the D16Z6...
I don't want to see a broken connection rod.. so I will very happy when my car outs 100WHP (~130HP on the mainshaft)

Thanks for the tip, guys! I will search for bigger injectors...

But I plan to replace some parts... D15 mainshaft, connection rods with pistons, D16Z6 head...

The tuning can starts, but it can't finished!

That small thing is on the 1.8T Audi, and 1.8T Seat... But maybe you have right... When I rev the car over 5000RPM the boost starts to decrease.. so the turbo is small or my engine isn't generate enought exhaust gas to spin the turbo...

I plan to change it to a bigger one.... :y

thats awesome setup... if that turbo came from a 1.8t i think thats a KO3 turbo and it starts boosting around 2200. looks nice man! tune it, get some bigger injectors, and dyno it. i want to see how much it makes.

Yes, I use the KKK 03 turbo. But it starts to boost at 2700 in my 1.4i... But the header is a little bit huge.. With the std. D15 header it was quicker.. With that it starts at 2000RPM... But at high RPM ranges it was a restriction.. Yesterday I have done a boost controller.. It works fine. I set the boost to 0,5 Bar. But at high RPM (6000) the boost was 0,3Bar...

Maybe may car can't drive that K03 enought...

Bishop 02-22-2006 06:46 AM

Some more pic of the car...

Before turbo....
http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/8...returbo9lu.jpg

I bought a KKK03 turbine for 210$
http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/9...rbicsek7xe.jpg

Then I have to change the ECU to a P28..
http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/2858/cables2xy.jpg
some ------- wires...

But I finished 2days later..
http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/5354/ecu1jo.jpg

So here is the car without the bumper
http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/883/icfr8um.jpg
The Fiat cooler fits fine, it was 40$
http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/7...otready7pw.jpg

And here is my home made AFR unit... :) it cost 10$ and it can show approx values about the AFR...

Re: Finished my boosted 1.4 civic

thats sweet... talk about doing it yourself. yea my friend has an A4 with a K04 which is an upgrade of the K03, he starts to boost around 2200 and starts to lose boost around 6000-6200. so you're still using the most of it.

Re: Finished my boosted 1.4 civic

Hey man, good job on that hmt setup! You spent $210 on that turbo? You should look around ebay sometimes, I watched a td04 turbo with only 1500 miles sell for $160 the other day, and it also had the oil and water lines, I think that turbo would be better for your car. And if it's running out of boost before redline it's not because your car isn't spitting enough exhaust, it's most likely because the turbine is spinning too fast to be efficient...

Great job, how bout a write up on your homemade a/f like the others said :)

baldur 05-07-2006 08:38 AM

Re: Finished my boosted 1.4 civic

$210 for a new turbo, I wouldn't complain.
The 1.8T makes 150hp from the factory, so it should be fine for your application. You just may need to put in a closed loop or rpm referenced boost controller. The pressure in the exhaust manifold is probably forcing the wastegate open. Either that or you have a restriction in your air inlet or a boost leak somewhere.

i could be wrong, won't surprise me if i am, but isn't the r series engine in the new civics? Kinda like a successor to the d series...maybe it was deisel...dunno but I read about some r series engines somewhere.

EDIT: oh sorry just looked through the list of engines, yeah like I said it's on the new civics :)

U have right..
I have done a home made boost controller, and the boost was goning low, before the redline.. The last month my homemade boost controller is damaged.. It don't do nothin.. The boost at 7000RPM was over 1 Bar.. So the turbine will be fine, I think, but I need a correct Boost controller.. Or the Wastegates spring is weak, and it opens at higher exhaust pressures..

I have done new pictures, It will coming soon..

Bishop 06-21-2006 04:53 AM

Civic ESI was slow... :)

So my car has a lots of weight, the built in subwoofers, the +88Ah battery, so it is not a drag machine...
There was a "streetrace" and I catch a lightened and chipped D16Z6 car.. :)

I run in Open loop, @0,4Bar... I going to go to a drag race, I hope I can run below 16s on 1/4 mile..

Re: Finished my boosted 1.4 civic

It is a Voltage Unit.. The Stock narrow band O2 sensor produces 0 - 1 V .. This Voltage unit monitoring the O2 sensors value.. It is a chep and quick solution.. The O2 sensor has 4 wire.. The signal wire and the GND connected to the unit.. The Voltage unit has an external battery, because the GND is common, and it generates bad values..

So I did this because the AFR unit is so expensive, and I got a turbo, so It was very helpful..

I didn't see it on google, I did it myself.. "It was simple like a wooden peg... "
