Re: Elantra turbo?
I've got the dependable DD and this car would probably sit til it stopped snowing (few months)... thats my only thing holding me back, I could wait and find another car, maybe find a good deal on a honda... aw heck I gotta stop being so indecisive lol.
Car looks great for what it is though.

burkej62, I'd love to look at one of these locked ECUs. Worst case they need a daughterboard like 88-89 OBD0 Honduh, but I doubt it.

Re: Elantra turbo?
The mitsu engine that came in my wife's car looked exactly like a 4G63 except it said "Hyundai" on the valve cover. I say try something different and pick it up. With what people have been doing with stock manifolds I say just toss that turbo you bought. That 1.8 should spool that 48/60 quite nicely.
specs--1,795 cc 1.8 liters 4 in-line front transverse engine with 82 mm bore, 85 mm stroke, 10 compression ratio, cast iron block, light alloy head, double overhead cam, automatic valve adjustment and four valves per cylinder
-Strut front suspension with stabilizer bar independent with coil springs , multi-link rear suspension with stabilizer bar independent with coil springs
My wife's elantra had a solid axle in the rear suspension. Atleast this model has IRS and discs all around. I'd say pick up it. Fix the front end and pick up a spare tranny and It'll be a nice $400 ride.
A nice sinktrap type manifold would nice. look how much room is between the head and the radiator. It's just asking for that thunderchicken boost.

Re: Elantra turbo?
The 91 Sonata has the G4CS in it which is one of the most sought after motors for doing a 2.4 swap (built 2.4L G4CS block+4G63 head=kinda like ls/vtec ) in a DSM. Plenty of people do 4G63T swaps in the older Hyundai's and I've seen non-turbo 6 bolt 4G63's come stock in older Elantras too. I'd check and see if yours is a viable candidate for a 4G, and if it is go drop your $400 and drop in a 4G63 and go sleeper status. There was a video on Streetfire of a funny little old *** Hyundai with a 4G63 swap pulling hard on some sports car, it was hilarious.
