Default Question about turbo'ing 04 Hyundai Elantra GT...

Hello, I am pretty new to this forum, and I have been trying to figure out exactly what I should do in turbo'ing my car. I read through the "new turbo" thread and looked at a lot of the links but had a hard time finding the answers to some of my questions to I thought I would just ask. Anyways its a 2 liter CVVT motor(MAF sensor, and returnless style fuel system), what I was planning on doing was getting either a new or used T3 turbo, blow off valve etc. I'm not really worried about the plumbing or anything like that I am just worried about the fuel management for this. I'v had people tell me that the stock fuel system will work for low boost applications, I'v had people tell me that I need to upgrade the injectors and to go with the 290cc hyundai sonata ones as its a direct fit. (stock injectors are 190cc btw...). I'v heard that if I put in the 290cc injectors, reset the ecu, let it idle for a while and drive it around partial throttle all day that the ecu will learn to use it and then I can go wide open throttle and it will handle it. Now I'v been hearing that the 290cc injectors would only be good for about 3psi of boost on this car, and that I should go with 350-450cc injectors. Now I am not sure if the car would be able to "learn" how to use this size of an injector as its significantly bigger than the stock one. So now I would need to add a piggy back fuel controller such as a MAFterburner or a apexi SAFC, SAFC II. For whatever reasons now I heard people saying that I will have a hard time using the SAFC's because since its an 04 and it has wideband o2 sensors or something I don't know and that I would need to use a clamp? Also I guess people in korea were disabling the CVVT so they could turbo their cars but I heard that if its low boost then the CVVT shouldn't hurt anything. Basically what it comes down to is I am not sure what the best rout to take is now. Basically my questions are do I need bigger injectors and if so what size?(leaning towards 350cc injectors), and will I need a piggy back controller and if so which one?(leaning towards MAFterburner), and also I want to start out at around 5psi, so should I go with a manifold w/ a wastegate flang on it and use a wastegate? Or go with an internal wastegate on the turbo? I am trying to keep budget in mind, and not trying to build a super turbo system, but I do want to make sure I do things the right way also. Any help is greatly appreatiated, thanks!

Get a well sized injector ... I would go with the 450's cause they are cheap .. maybe they fit on the hyundai.
And also because you would probably turn up the boost after getting used to 5 psi...so a bigger injector would be better. Get a piggybac...a friend of mine used a S-AFC on a MAF engine you can get whatever works...to control the injectors.....I wouldn't worry to much about the returnless fuel system....

Hey thanks for the replies! I think I am going to go with the bigger injectors and the piggy back...would u guys recommend me installing the injectors and the piggy back first and get the car running normally, then after everything is cool and installed properly add the turbo plumbing? Also since I am planning on doing around 5psi, should I go with an external or internal wastegate? My only consern is being able to set the turbo to that amount of psi...the external seems like more of a pain in the ***, but I don't know, I am just tyring to stay simple, but I don't want it to spike and cause my engine to detonate or anything... Oh, and has anyone had any input on the MAFterburner? Because I am really curious about how good this would work compared to the Apexi SAFC... Thanks again!

I've never heard of an ECU that can 'learn' what size injectors it has. I wouldnt trust that advice. Stepping up 400cc total, I would think that it would be more than enough for at least 5psi, but go ahead and try to get more injector than you see yourself needing right now, like some DSM 450's (if those can be made to fit). If you are trying to keep a low budget, try an internal wastegated turbo. If it DOES spike and you do have the 450's, they'll probably be able to supply the extra fuel needed to curb detonation.
