Drove an SRT-4 the other day...

So I go to my friends house and I see a brand new neon blue SRT-4 with black leather interior sitting there. It was one of her friends cars and he got it a month ago (only has 3,000 miles on it). That was the first one I have ever been in and I actually thought it looked pretty sweet being stock. I got a chance to race him from a dead stop, but I had my all season tires on so it was kinda poinless for me, I would catch up pretty fast, once I finally got traction in 3rd gear. I would have really liked to race him from a dead stop with my drag radials though.

Anyways, we all end up going out to eat at red robin and him and I talked about cars and what not, well when we got back he is like... "you want to take it for a drive?" and I am like... "hell yeah!". So I get in the car and adjust the seat since I am a short bastard. We drive to a nice spot and I start ripping on it, it really felt nothing like my civic at all and it actuall felt a lot slower. The power was almost instant when you hit the gas and it was more like a smooth acceleration instead of a kick in the ass like my turbo civic. I didn't really like the small turbo it had, but I think if you slapped a big fatty turbo on it that thing would rip pretty good. I don't really know much about the SRT-4 or how much power the stock engine can hold, but I am guessing with a few upgrades (turbo being the main one) you could have a really nice looking car that is also pretty fast.

Pat

Re:Drove an SRT-4 the other day...

werd still is a neon, but is a pretty damn fast neon. Maybe a flitch or someting or just a really good driver or maybe a typo, but in a magizine I read they were comparing cars (s2k, NEON srt-4, RSX, nsx i think, well a variety) and they put up that the Neon did the quarter in 11.9. I know they are pretty quick out of the box, but is it really that fast?

who cares..its still nice looking....

Re:Drove an SRT-4 the other day...

Well I dunno about all the specs, but last dyno event I went to I was right in between two SRT-4's at 230whp.

Re:Drove an SRT-4 the other day...

I test drove one about 3 months ago, and i have to admit, for a $20,000 out of the box turbo car, i was pretty impressed. it handled and braked well (both very important to me) the seats we comfortable, and i thought the power was there. its a very good power plant to start with if you ask me. theres a guy at the track with just the "factory stage 3 upgrade kit" running like 13 something on factory tires.....
im not gonna lie...
i am considering it for my next car.

edit
and everyone is saying, its a neon, but i would drive the neon. i would spend 20K on one. and who gives a ---- if my turbo honda is faster, its not a brand new car. my $.02

Re:Drove an SRT-4 the other day...

Yeah I just check the dyno list and there were 3 SRT-4's that dynoed when I did. The 2003 was at 245whp, another 2004 was at 232whp, the last 2004 was at 225whp. I'm not really sure if any of those had mods or were stock though.

Yeah I don't think I would have any problem beating an SRT-4. When we raced I caught up pretty fast, but we had to let off since we ran out of room. The one I raced was brand new and completely stock. The boost goes to 15 psi and kinda tappers down to like 10 psi though, not sure what that's about.

Re:Drove an SRT-4 the other day...

If you turn the AC on it ups the boost 2lbs and if you have it really cold it adds 3 psi

lol...

atleast htat is what the kid around here with the srt4 tells me

it is still a neon

yeah but id like to ahve a car that doesnt have to be built from head to toe with parts to make some serious power.

so srt-4 for me definately over a civic.

Re:Drove an SRT-4 the other day...

thats a cool write up pat, they are cool cars, yea its still a neon, but no big deal, who cares about looks when u got a limited slip and boost, i think it drives a little rough compared to the wrx and the wrx can outhandle it and run with it from 0 - 80... but none the less.. all factory 4 banger turbo cars need bigger turbos... The evo and sti are descent but you can always upgrade

Ummm...the SRT was built from the factory to handle boost. That's why it costs $20,000. You can't compare a 15 year old economy car to a modern day car that was actually built with performance in mind.

the new quanie has spoken

Standard Engine 2.4L I4
Standard Transmission 5 Speed Manual
Horsepower @ RPM 230@5300
Torque @ RPM 250@2200
Fuel Economy Cty/Hwy 22 / 30
Combined Fuel Economy 25
Number of Valves 16 <--- way up there on the tech dyno
Compression 8.1
Displacement 2429 / 148
Bore X Stroke 3.44x3.98
Power To Weight Ratio 12.6
Final Drive Ratio 3.53
Curb Weight MT 2900 (my 91 integra weighs 2800)

as for the wrx outhandling it, thats debatable... and the SRT4 is faster in the 1/4

they are underrated too, ive seen several stock srt=4's put down 230 hp to the wheels and 260 ft lbs of tq

Re:Drove an SRT-4 the other day...

I drove one when they first came out, and was pretty impressed for a stock setup. For the price and power you really cant complain. Me personally I'd never buy a SRT4 because it really is just a hopped up neon, and it has all the cheeze dick characterstics of one too. 4 doors, gayass interior, and that of so ever great slushy steer from a typical american sport compact. Unlike hondas and most other jap cars, double wishbone is the better way to go. It provides more predictibility, provide a better overall grip and give a better balance between ride and comfort.

I say buy a crx and dump 10 grand into it ;)

I drove one a little while ago. It was nice, but I would reather go higher in price to an STi or an Evo, or go lower with a civic and spend the money to build it up. This is the wrong forum to try to find someone on dodge's dick. It's HMT, we like to work on our cars.

Interestin=g that you would say that since chrysler is releasing a new lightweight SRT-4 - That is the one that ran 11.9 in the mag. Lots of Carbon fiber and a stripped interior even the door handles are shaved and they took off the big goofy wing. IT weighs in at about 2500lbs.

The boost falls off but all you need to do is change the wastegate for about $80 or do a ghetto spring mod and you get 15psi all the way to redline. This is a video of the lightweight SRT-4 with the Mopar Stage 3 Kit. Est HP is 368whp and 400wtq. The one he is racing is no slouch. They were only launching a 2000rpm!

http://www.clearlinegraphics.com/srt...10-2-04_NS.mpg

that was 11.79 @120

Neons can't handle? I don't get that one...maybe not a base model but my 99 r/t came with Koni's, Front(21") and rear(19") swaybars. 18:1 steering.200lb springs and they .86g's on the skidpad. Probably better with a little wider tire. They even had a very good showing in Showroom stock for the ACR. Only the Miata gave them a run from 1994-1997.

All bow down to my Factory Domestic Rice

I was gonna say the same thing but i thought people would get mad. No matter if you guys like it or not Neons and Civics are practically aimed for the same crowd and to accomplish the same thing. One is domestic and one is jap.....I think everyones ass is just hurting because Honda hasn't came out with a factory turbo car. I think for 20gs they hook you up nicely....except for the no rear power window thing...what the ---- is that?!

Why doesn't Honda make a stock turbo car?? It woud be nice to have a car a little more affordable that the S2000.

Why would honda do that?
They sell enough cars right now.. They see no point in trying to compete in that catagory.
