NO IT DOESNT. God invented a little thing called the SYNCRO. So gears dont grind. Thats it! thats all you had to say to answer the question! If you want to learn more goto www.howstuffworks.com

yes, because answering a question by giving the least amount of information possible is always the best way.

i think it's funny that everyone thinks it's worthless. most touring car drivers double clutch their downshifts, even when they are driving synchroboxes. why? because it protects the transmission. road racing isn't just about lap times, it's about conservation of the powertrain, tires, brakes, etc. if you can do something to give the gearbox a better chance of making it to the finish line, you do.

i've actually driven race cars with dog engagement gearboxes as well that needed to be double clutch downshifted. but yeah, there's no possible way i could know what i'm talking about, so "lol, i need to just shut my mouth..."

well everyone should stop reading sport compact magazine and stop watching 2nrtv.

the word speed shifting describing what i'm about to talk about has been around since before all of us were born. way way before infernalsoul was born it seems.

turbomacdaddy is right in this respect. if you can break the tires loose maybe speed shifting won't help you. GET SOME SLICKS lol.

when i speed shift my camaro. i do not let off the gas and you press the clutch far enough and slam the next gear and drop the clutch. speed shifting in my camaro slings me like a slingshot. but when i speed shift into 2nd or 3rd with street tires i tend to get sideways. and that slows me down a little

to answer tigris. yes if your hardware isn't up to the challenge you will break stuff. i've broken 3 mucie m20s and 2 mucie m21s. also one rear end and bent one driveline. althought i've never grinded any gears speed shifting maybe with some trannies it might i don't know.

infernosoul you need to grow up. maybe whereever the ---- you live people don't call it speed shifting. but thats what old school guys call it. leave you foot on the floor and press the clutch enough so that you can shift and slam the gear and then drop the clutch. that is speedshifting. MAYBE NOT IN JAPAN. BUT THIS ISN'T ------- JAPAN.

"This doesn't not necessarily give you more hp but " - infernalsoul

WHY WOULD SHIFTING DIFFERENT GIVE YOU MORE HORSEPOWER? TOO MUCH 2nrtv!!!!!!

"WHY WOULD SHIFTING DIFFERENT GIVE YOU MORE HORSEPOWER? TOO MUCH 2nrtv!!!!!!"

- Simple some people would think you would get more horsepower doing this. Just like people believing you can get an extra 20 hp by changing an air filter or another 50 hp at the wheels! by putting in a jet chip or something like that in.

- I don't know what this "2nrtv!!!!!!", weren't you just saying we are not in Japan? Well maybe you should type this ---- in english for all of us to understand. Just a suggestion, moron.

- Just so you know and understand that turbomacdaddy was referring to the way I described speed shifting - he was referring to power shifting about loss of traction and breaking ----.

"infernosoul you need to grow up. maybe whereever the ---- you live people don't call it speed shifting. but thats what old school guys call it."

- I need to grow up? Obviously you didn't read my last post thoroughly enough. Let's refresh your brain.

"Get your(this means you) ------- facts straight before you go blabing your(this means you once again) ------- mouths."

I also did not say that everyone calls what i call power shifting(which it is) speed shifting. What I posted is what i've always been told by the car manual and other people that aren't stupid like you and you two punks flamed me like little bitches.

"infernosoul you're a *****.
speeding shifting is when you leave the gas on the floor and quick shift gears... speed shifting/quick shiting whatever. dont' try and tell me i'm wrong lol"

- Well I am telling you, you are wrong. I don't care about "all" these "old school people" you talk about, because everyone around here has told me that is speed shifting and not power shifting which you are talking about. I also remember in one of my car manuals it telling about speed shifting what it is, what it does and not to do it, when i find I'll post a picture to prove your dumb *** wrong even more.

--------
"oh yeah. this is very good for your clutch, gives you extra horsepower and stuff, so you can win races by miles not inches."

random-strike
"its called speed shifting and thats how you drag race."

- Let me see how did you put it when I said you don't gain hp when doing this, oh yeah I remember some retarded bullshit that you posted in your last post. "TOO MUCH 2nrtv!!!!!!" I think we can agree your a ------- moron. Go look up the word "Hypocrite" in the dictionary study it understand it.

infernal you're twisting my words around. speed shifting does help your 1/4 time. not by giving you extra horsepower magically. but by increasing the amount of time during your run which you're at full throttle. also you will not lose any rpms or speed by shifting slow.

2nrtv is a tv show during the power block on tbs i think. all car people watch the power block... horsepower tv/trucks ext.

i may be wrong in anglewood california, or compton. but its just a word describing something lol. i guess there can be different names for it. your japanese car manual has different names for things than americans call them i guess.

how would taking the time and effort to match rpms then slide it out of gear and into another one be SPEEDY? seems like that would take forever. instead of calling that speed shifting i would call it DUMBASS shifting. im not big city lawyer but it seems to me that barely pressing the clutch and slamin gears while keeping it floored would be a lot faster don't you think?

i've been in drag racing since day one, everyone has different words for different ----. Here in san francisco people call "mugging" = looking at a person with much hate! but in LA or NYC "Mugging" = somebody just jacked your *** for your new NIKE shoes. different.

so don't hate just because some people says different things, it's just like me, i still call drifing = POWER SLIDE! don't hate!
